Regarding the transferring of community builds in the Soft Reset category, particularly the Shopping District I would advise against transferring the shopping district over to the new world as you would have players that fill their shop basement with everything from their base. They wouldn't be restricted to only the space they can carry and space in their ender chest. Even if that's the case, it's not like I want to limit the amount of items people can transfer over in the event of a soft reset. I'm kind of doubting if people are really gonna even use up the space since a shulker box for every slot in your inventory and enderchest is plenty. Could be wrong though. Never underestimate how much crap I have lmao!!

Well never thought the previous poll would be 50/50. I voted still for a full reset. The thought about taking all ur stuff with u in shulkers defeats the purpose of a reset. With a soft reset u get simplex 1.5. Important stuff pasted around the new map. Nah not such a fan of that. It would be good to see stuff being rebuild and improved. Not saying u need to exactly rebuild your own stuff. It can give new insights and u can create a whole new base that is very diffrent then the current one. What is starting on a new map with god tools and god gear? Then u don't need to grind and most people will head straight to the nether for ancient debris and get those netherrite tools. I bet people will do that and then trying to sell it to become even richer then they allready are. So just reset the whole map fully so we can expierence what the new nether feels like when you are not even ready for the end game. Would love to see how people are going to approach that. Unlike most new comers.. few of us have a extensive collection of stuff and most of us collected skulls from players that quit and/or banned. I refuse full reset. I rather keep all my collection for soft reset. I chose Soft Reset since i want to keep what is valuable to me! Until 1.17 arrive I will have to make the dreadful decision to let go of those skulls. For now I do NOT wish for full reset. I hope you and the rest can understand that some of us, the collectors, like to keep certain stuff. Thank you. Thats for a lot of people who have been around. Those are items that do not change the game they have a sentimental value and you do not want to lose them. This is fully understandable. Some of the skulls u can not replace because those players never come back. So yeah I got your point here and that I think the reson for more people to vote soft reset.

I suggest this helpful youtube video on how to install it:

So I'm curious about a specific thing before I mark my vote.
If we vote for a hard or soft reset now, is it likely that a second reset is in order if the next update is a large overworld update, such as the fabled cave update?

Cake Math
This is a huge oversimplification but this is basically how expansions work over time. Picture's help my brain work so maybe it will help some of you. Also, not every update needs an expansion and not every time will the expansion be the same amount. For this case, assume each square is 1x1.
As you can see after the third expand (assuming my assumptions) it would be 16x the original area. Now think of the table as Simplex. Our expansions were smaller each time but that math is harder and we also didn't expand each update. We have expanded twice though. The point is we can't just expand forever, that's bad for server space. A reset will bring us back to the first table. First table is good for server space.

I don't think we need like lot's of expansions indeed. Also if we expand for new cave systems for example just build your base at edge of new map . Then you can easily reach new territories.

Meehan/Mark - Thanks for clarifying!
I've voted for a soft reset.
The growing consensus appears to be that a reset is inevitable as the server's resources are finite. One of my least favorite things to hear mentioned on this server is a reset, it seems like prior to 1.16's release that topic was brought up repeatedly, at least once a week. Now that the update is upon us, it's the only thing we talk about in server. For me, that's stressful and demotivating. It's hard to be excited about a new build or project when it's destruction is imminent (this is why I don't play on a anarchy or factions server). I don't play this game to get stressed, but as a form of stress relief. I'd rather just get the thing over with so maybe we can talk about something else for once, move on with our lives and hopefully let the server live another 3-4 years before we need to have this discussion again. Would I be mad if Nether reset won? No, probably not. Would I be looking forward to the next update that requires an overworld update? Definitely not.
Now why soft reset instead of hard? Previously I had stated that I think that a soft reset where items would be allowed to transfer would wreck the economy. And that might happen. Changes in supply vs demand always come with some amount of upheaval and controversy. Limits to what can be carried over might help with that, but I'm not sure it's necessary. Most of the diamond hoarders are diamond hoarders for a reason. They're self sufficient and enjoy being so. They will continue to hoard their diamonds like before and will only help to distribute a bit of that hoarded wealth if they do decide to part with some diamonds post-reset.
In the end, it's a selfish decision for me, This game for me isn't about having the most, or being the best, or any real competitive aspect of it. I wouldn't even want the first dragon egg if it was given to me. I've never strove to have a veilbow or any such super rare item. It's not that those things are wrong to want, but that's not how I choose to play the game. It's a sandbox game and I appreciate that aspect of it. Each player can choose their own path according to their interests and strengths. If we must reset, I would rather treat this like an adventurer who has to pack up all his belongings he values and travel to a new land, full of new possibilities.
I'm not sure who I'm quoting here, but I heard this said and I thought it was appropriate "I'd rather come back after the reset feeling like I'm coming to a new map, rather than a whole new server" Just being honest, a hard reset would probably see me go, unlikely to return.

I said in discord like that before. I said I think of the soft reset as cleaning a hoarder's house. The hoarder can't keep hoarding without removing stuff or expanding the house. Since we cant expand the house, hoarder has to pack their belongings and come back to cleaned house to hoard again. And builds in server is basically part of the house, the hoarder can't bring say a wall because they love it too much.

i think that rather than prolonging a reset, because eventually it is inevitable that we will have to fully reset, if we get it over with now it means that old players can come back and have a whole new experience waiting for them, it may give people more motivation to play again and i think that always playing it safe and sticking with the old gets boring after a while, sure bring a few items but personally would be so excited in a reset to have a chance to build simplex from the start of the map and create history for years to come.
