Sure, but I'd argue a minecraft server on which you can swear is far from a school playground, and a card shark is far from a person (that could very well also be a kid for what it's worth) setting up a redstone machine with listed chance rates rates.

You think kids are not as mentally mature enough, when I just found out my child knows what sex is the other day. The kids today are a lot smarter then we think they are/then they show. They can do stupid shit and we assume they are 'stupid' so to say but they are not innocent little angles as they let on. Lol

So, laissez faire? Let the buyer beware? And cuss all you want while you're at it? Assume they're all adult enough to handle all of the above? In other words, the standards are calibrated for older/mature kids, teens and adults.
OK, I can dig that. But you just made my other point: by those same standards which you both just defended, it seriously calls into doubt any claim that this is a "family friendly" place. It isn't; not unless you exclude kids from the definition of "family". Would you agree?

"chatting about sex"? The only close cases to this I've seen is when people are being plain inappropriate with what they say, not having a conversation about sex - which, for all intents and purposes, a public chat in a video game is anything but the place to discuss - unlike a service you provide in that video game's public chat, even if that service is frowned upon. Once again, this is a video game. Staff is here to keep things as fun as possible for as many people as possible (call the result of that double standards if you want), not to dictate how you should live your life. Anyway, I personally really don't see this as an issue, but maybe that's just me. (If it ain't broke don't fix it, I guess?) The point Im making here Veil is that you measure with two standards. On one hand you don't allow sexual content due to it's mature nature and claim it does not belong in a public chat in a video game, regardless of whether it's inappropriate or not, on the other hand, gambling which is just as much mature content and actually possibly damaging is allowed? Why draw the line at one point, but not at the other. By allowing gambling you're basically taking a step down the spiral of moral decay in my opinion. You claim there is no issue so far with spam, sure it might not be one person actually spamming chat (although some people are borderline) but if a new player were to enter at some points in time this evening for example all they would see is chat about gambling, people advertising their casino or bickering about it. Not exactly something I would want to see in a so called "family friendly" server. Furthermore you might not perceive it as a problem, however it can easily be argued that simulated gambling can lead to differences in the way gambling is perceived, making it more normal, acceptable and relatively harmless. I'm not the only one who thinks this, as several local and national governments (Australian government for example) have raised concerns about this and are attempting to regulate this.

Gambling, virtual or otherwise is innappropriate on a Minecraft server IMO.

I think if it's just a bit of fun why not? And I think there's a difference with rl money and in-game money. And on top of that there's a massive difference with how the money is gambled in real life and how it's gambled on the server. I'll admit I haven't looked at it myself but how complex can it be? It's not like it's poker, blackjack, roulette or whatever other games there are, it's most likely a little machine where you insert a diamond and maybe something pops out the other end. If the stakes aren't high, I don't see the problem, however if the stakes ARE high then that's a big no from me. But, when you look at worst case scenario here, what is it? Someone loses a few diamonds, they get pissed off and never play again. I don't think anyone here is capable of getting addicted to a little gambling machine. because the stakes really aren't that high, and also it can get boring fast. Also the consequences for gambling in real life are far far greater, food, shelter, electricity, insurance blah blah blah. In-game it's very expendable, if you lose it, you can easily gain it back (again stakes are not high). And regarding what age group this server is categorized as, I think I would categorize it as 12+ due to swearing being allowed.
Java you said the effort you put in to get the diamonds is real, yes, it is. And that "effort" can easily be lost multiple other ways i.e death. Which is way worse depending on what you have in your inventory.

Ok for me I do not see an issue like Kitty said if they loose it they will learn. My son is on here with me and he learns. Heck a few days in jail helped him along before he swayed the wrong way and got banned.
Now I am in no way a newbie to minecraft .but I am to online play and spamming the chat is the only issue I see with it.
For me I am not wasting my hard earned items to waste on some mini game.

If my casino is a problem because of kids not understanding casino's and gambling i could put more rules up and info up the front of my casibo to what gambling is and means and what you should be aware of while gambling.
Would this making gambling 'safer' sytze??

Would this making gambling 'safer' sytze?? As far as Im concerned it should simply not be allowed at all. However since both staff and Meehan seem to not consider this an issue I will just have to live with the fact that gambling is allowed. This doesnt mean I will at any point consider it acceptable or not be annoyed by it. Keep running your stupid casino, do whatever the hell you want but consider the fact that there is a reason minors are not allowed to gamble and that there are strict regulations controlling gambling as well as warnings about gambling problems. In reply to Kitty saying it's a good learning experience. I assume you also let your 9 year old play around with knives and keep medication and cleaning agents at a place where they can easily reach them? If they cut their hand of or end up in the hospital it's obviously a good learning experience. Sometimes children, and even adults have to be protected from their own stupidity, rules do not only exist to protect others.

And sometimes you have to let them be stupid otherwise they won't learn anything. Potentially anything can be dangerous, doesn't mean we should protect and control everything they do. Everyone can agree with that, it's just people draw the line in different ways.

I mean heck, cmon people this is a simulated world with no real-life consequences. I agree it should be regulated, but banning is over the top.

I hope I don't see an 'Universal Simplex' and an 'Orthodox Simplex' schism anytime soon.
The biggest difference between simulated and real gambling is how each type gets people to see the value of the 'money' that they're spending.
Poker games and slots sims use in-game currency and I think that's the reason people play them: because there isn't really much of a risk.
People could get addicted to gambling in game but there really isn't any real consequence towards you. Real gambling poses risks far greater and people who should be old enough to legally commit in such acts should know the value of money. I think that's what kitty was saying. There's a need to learn the meaning of value and the work required for earning. I don't think straight up loss is the way, but instead learning the hardship of obtaining it.
Heck, you could get addicted to basically anything. Playing video games being one that is the favourite of the oh so strict parent, with arguably the same caliber of negative effects as gambling with the trade off of health instead of money.
I don't think you'd go advocating that playing video games is bad?

I agree with Daku. There are the same addictive consequences from just playing "Minecraft" or "CoD" and most other games. Gambling is just a small feature of minecraft. There are some games that are centered on gambling, whether the money is real or not, but minecraft is a many feature game. And wouldn't you be wasting the same amount of time playing on Simplex when it has gambling or if it didn't? Don't know if this article helped and I'm sure it will be contradicted, but I wanted people to know my thoughts, even if I didn't place them exactly how I wanted to.

Putting the kids gambling to one side. I think the simple issue of scams is far more important. The types of 'casinos' set up by the newer players usually consist of a hopper leader into a chest where you drop your 'bets', and a dispenser with iron (equals win) and coal (equals a loss). This is so easy to just change to the owners preference, if they want they can take all the iron out and leave coal. And yes, mods can check, but with the growing amount how is anyone meant to know whether they have been scammed or just unlucky? Mods surely dont want to be checking the 'casino' everytime someone bets right?

So now i will bump this due to the spamming of the chat between casino owners and players. This is making chat near impossible to view as there is bantering and betting within the chat please take it to the PM.
My Ignore List is constantly growing now.
