We have a backup. Space needed to keep making backups is the main problem a world reset would address. Just resetting the nether only delays that problem a little longer. Better to do it now when it's kinda relaxed rather than later imo. We've pushed it off pretty long already.

I can't go for a full reset unless I know if we can keep some stuff. Starting from scratch and not even having access to books etc is rubbish. The loss of my bows would be a killer. A smaller world is also a but pants.
However I do wonder if we are losing players because there's not enough shiny to keep them happy and the area around spawn is littered with stuff from players who aren't on the server anymore. Appreciate we can't keep going as we have been forever.

I am up for a nether reset. I know that people have spent much time on nether shops and such but i think netherite and other blocks that are introduced outweigh the reset of shops and farms.

I voted for Nether Reset.
I understand that the file size is getting quite large, but honestly the server is still fully playable. I rarely experience server-side lag these days. (thanks to the measures the Admins have undertaken) I feel like a reset before the point where it is difficult to play is a waste of countless hours of hard work and dedication and years of history. There are some seriously quality builds on this server that I would hate to see go. The thought that this server could be reset does steal most of my motivation for building things.
I agree that this server is to be a living server and not simply a history museum. I love seeing the new updates and I think we should do everything we can to keep up with those updates while accommodating the player base.
Just a side note about the keeping of inventory being a solution for keeping The Collection alive - The Collection has hundreds of skulls, hundreds of books and loads of other collectibles. Even with an inventory of shulkers, a player can only keep 972 stacks of items. As books and skulls are unique items and won't stack together, the collection would be seriously limited. Also note, that a good portion of players are SERIOUSLY Rich, the injection of tens of thousands of diamonds into a brand new economy would effectively wreck that economy and cause prices to skyrocket. Keep in mind that a single shulker of diamond blocks (which several players have) is over 15,000 diamonds. Any non-transferring player who has to mine their diamonds naturally would be poor forever as elytras, shulkers, beacons, etc. would be extremely expensive until farms were built up. Welcome to inflation...

Welcome to inflation... I agree about carrying items over. A reset should be a reset. We definitely have less wealth "collectors" than we used to, but starting over isn't fun when you're trying to compete with people with elytras, god gear, stacks of db, etc. Every map reset I've played on servers before simplex was much more fun when everyone is starting from scratch. You get to see the economy start up again, people working together on large goals like the ender dragon (although someone will probably bed kill it in 40 minutes), etc. The collection could be brought over by staff in one way or another, which staff seems interested in.

If we did a full reset we would have to do all map arts again plus we'd have to grind which doesn't sound too entertaining. That's probably why I'd prefer a nether reset only.

Im down for a nether reset as people wouldnt be loosing as much (besides shops etc). Im not too keen at all on a full reset because the fact that the server hasnt reset is the main reason why ive stayed on this server. i feel like with an overworld reset we'd all be loosing so much, the builds, everyones mapart, server history etc

I just wish that we'd treat the nether the same as the overworld, in whatever path we chose to take.
I believe the decision that we make here is going to set a precedent for what we do in future versions. If we reset the nether because we need to get the new features, and we decide that the new features are more important than the history and builds in the nether: then we should do the same in an update that affects the overworld in a similar manner. A large overworld update that adds new biomes, or perhaps new ores should be treated the same as this nether update.
I don't want us ever deciding history and builds are more important than the newest features for the overworld, while at the same time openly embracing a nether reset as soon as it adds stuff.
There's still plenty of unexplored land in the nether, whereas the overworld is running dry.
So I guess where I'm at is: if we are always going to keep the overworld as it is because we're afraid of letting go, then we should do the same for the nether. No reset; we'll still find our netherrite/ancient debree, and we'll still see the new biomes.
But if we reset the nether because of a major nether update, then we almost should have to do the same down the road when a major overworld update arises.

By going through all the above threads I can't understand why we agreed not to reset overworld when so many new changes came to it and size was already so big to keep expanding. Taking the above point in mind if people could travel so much distance in overworld to find new areas of interest same could be achieved for nether I think since there would be hella lot of area present when compared to overworld which we didn't resetted in earlier update. In terms of preserving simplex history in overworld and not resetting, perhaps it would be same applied to nether roof area as well as nether farms if we can't reset the overworld to preserve build we shouldn't reset nether too. Some people might not lose much but unlike most of people who commented above I for sure can say most of my work have been done on roof connecting all my farms base and nether roof shop foundations laid by me, so I do hold nether claims dear to me. Seeing from my point of view I can only say if reset happens it should be of both overworld as well as nether and not based on the view that only few people have stuff in nether to lose...isn't a practical approach. Nether and overworld both shared claims plugin and not end since start everyone know end can reset anytime, if we have claim plugin for both overworld and nether I would for sure argue that if one resets other should reset as well. I don't mind reset I for one would say reset was a must when so much new stuff popped in overworld we can't keep adding new and new stuff and not lose anything will just make server performance terrible but seeing the size of nether vs overworld I don't think there is a need for specific nether reset and not overworld...perhaps would vouch for reverse #Overworld reset or #FullReset since would have some practical use and people can save stuff like animals and collectibles in nether. I couldn't agree more.

In the interest of time, I'll be closing the poll a week earlier (2nd July 10:00pm AEST) than previously announced. This way we can hopefully avoid a long drawn out process as we'll have more time to plan and discuss further options depending on the results.

I voted for nether reset. I would lose years of work, inventory, villages, farming, widespread outposts and etc. to ever want a world reset

NetherReset!#NetherReset!#NetherReset!#NetherReset!#NetherReset!#NetherReset!Save the Nether by having it Reset! #NetherReset!#NetherReset I think he's trying to tell us something. I can't quite decipher what that is though. All for nether reset! Burn it down! :P I don't think fire is very effective against the nether. I'm just saying. according to my own opinion, they are fantastic They are. At the very least Mount Olympus is the most epic survival terraforming project I've ever seen in person. a good portion of players are SERIOUSLY Rich, the injection of tens of thousands of diamonds into a brand new economy would effectively wreck that economy One of the reasons I'm against transferring any items over in the event of a reset. Onto an actual post though. I'm for a full reset and have been for a rather long while now. I thought the release of 1.13 was the prime time and a good opportunity to do this, and I still think it would have been a good fit. Now 1.13 was a disaster of a release in pretty much every way, but that's a different topic. Keep in mind the server started on 1.9, 4 years is a very long time for a survival world, even more so for a public multiplayer server. The fact of the matter is that it's simply not feasible to keep running an SMP that keeps up-to-date with the latest minecraft versions without ever resetting. I think great examples of this are MinecraftOnline which is still running 1.7.10 and 2B2T, which is still running 1.12.2. These are both some of the oldest SMP servers still running out there, and both of them used to update with new minecraft versions, until they couldn't anymore. Now granted, both of these are quite extreme examples with MinecraftOnline running some extremely old software that is no longer supported by its developers, and 2B2T having a world size of over 7TB, but my point is that eventually it no longer becomes feasible for one reason or another. You reach a point where you either stagnate and keep the old or move on and reset. For Simplex, time is running out. Perhaps you're against a full reset, and you may have very valid reasons, but if Simplex wants to keep up-to-date, it eventually becomes an inevitability. It has been held off for a very long time already, and it can still be stretched, but how far it can be stretched and the impact stretching it has on the server will only get worse. Resetting the nether now would solve it for now. After all, it's the *nether update*. But I don't think it's a good idea long-term. Doing a full reset means the ability to expand and keep up with new content properly for many years to come, which is something that currently isn't possible. The server barely managed to get by with the new overworld content from 1.13, 1.14, and 1.15, some of which have been rather forcefully squeezed in. What if 1.17 adds a new structure to the overworld? Or a new biome? New mobs? New ANYTHING. What are you going to do then? No, seriously, tell me. You're either just not going to get this content, or be forced to finally give in and say "okay, it's time for a reset". Like with 1.13's oceans overhaul, I think 1.16's complete nether overhaul is a prime opportunity to say "Hey, it's becoming blatantly obvious that we can not longer get new content without fucking it in in some ugly way, so maybe it's actually time to reset.". Magma blocks aren't even a thing anything near 0 0 in the nether because that's how old the nether is. Remember when that was introduced? Oh yeah, 1.10. Woodland mansions? Yeah we got like 4 of them in total. Bamboo forests and pandas? Sweet berry bushes? Foxes? New villages? Pillager outposts? A lot (dare I say most) of them were actually manually regenerated terrain. Do you think it's totally okay for a new player to have to *walk* 6000 blocks in the nether to get the content one would (should) assume would just be there if you're in the correct place? Because I don't. And stuff like this will only get worse the longer the server goes on like this. I think the fact that a full dimension reset is something that a lot of you are saying yes to says a lot about the state of the server when it comes to content updates. Anyhow, I'm probably just rambling at this point, but I do want people to think about not just 1.16, but future content updates beyond that as well, keeping in mind that eventually you might no longer have the option to get this new content at all without a reset. Of course, I probably see things quite differently than your average player. I've been around for nearly as long as Simplex has existed and having (I believe) spent the most time playing on this server. I am done with this world. I've been there, done that, and I'd frankly rather have a fresh world to play in at this point. For a lot of people Simplex currently is their fresh world to play in, and I understand why you wouldn't want to get that taken away. Hell, even if you've been here for a very long time and still find it fun just the way it is, it would suck to get what you have taken away from you. I understand that. Eventually you might be in my shoes though, and at that point there will be others who are in your shoes now. It just is what it is and there will never be an option that makes everyone happy.

I keep thinking this when people bring up about not resetting the server, that being the history. Yes server running for 4 years will have history but most of these "historical" places and things are just abandoned, for example ION, and no new players gonna join actively search for those, except duck, most don't care, they cant really do anything there. Also, almost no old players are also go to these places, just talking or mentioning them. Server is clinging onto old memories without realizing it's choking out new players. Look at land around spawn, except for lucid, no one lives there and most new players has to use Rtp pad and those who don't have to walk long way. This is just my opinion. Hope i didn't offend anyone.
