I'm making this out of curiosity so I can see where the community stands right now in regards to this proposition, as it has been proposed to me a few times in the past 6 months. I just want to say I have no intention on actually doing this so don't panic, this is just a social experiment.
EDIT: Your rank will remain the same. I would probably have to delete your claim blocks too so people don't abuse them.

Though it seems others don't agree, I would like this to happen. I've gotten god gear and amazing bases two times on Simplex, and attempted to restart a 3rd time, but I got bored. My interests have changed since I built my bases, and I think as much as some don't wish to lose their items, I would enjoy the new experiences. I have a lot of ideas to try if this happens.

I wouldn't mind.
I used to be against a world reset, and I still am to a big extent as I believe that if someone wants to start fresh they can do so on their own without there being any need for the world being reset, but I currently wouldn't mind at all as I feel things are getting quite stale for me.
I'm still not done with the current world but I've also spent over 3000 hours on it. There is only so much to see within the small map that we have on which a lot of people play, and there is also only so much one can do after being so well established and rich they don't have much of anything left to build and can't even spend their money as there is not enough supply to spend it on.
There is also only so much one can loot within a small world like this with this many people playing. I mean hell, we had like what? 5 mansions in total? That's basically nothing, and now literally no one can get any loot from them anymore. (RIP totems of undying, became extinct after a few days of them existing.) The vast majority of desert temples have also been looted, and the end is just absolutely tiny given how spread out end cities are. But I guess the world border is an entirely different discussion on its own.
Anyway, losing everything you've worked for is a scary thought, but it's still just a video game. A world reset is a fresh start for when things get stale and/or exhausted. The community will (for some part at the very least) still be there, and it's an opportunity to do things you've done before differently this time around.
Edit: Fixed typo.
Also, essentially what acaciadaddy said. I guess things are around the point of becoming pretty stale for us old people.
A world reset would also mean the economy would be reset. New people currently basically don't have to work for jack shit. Easy xp on day 0? Got that covered with the enderman farm. Easy beacons? got that covered for as low as 75 diamonds or a bit of grinding at already established places in the nether. You get the point. Same goes for old players too though. Things are very stale as there is nothing to work for anymore. For example, I lost my god boots the other day, and guess what? I made new ones from scratch spending less than 5 minutes without spending a single diamond using my villagers and rediculous supply of emeralds. Not having to work for things is only fun for so long.

You know what this is an idea from another server I worked on... We would have an old survival world basically for those who dont want to lose their stuff and a new survival world that resets every major update. Idk how much that would require resource wise but it wouldn't be a awful idea if possible. Not in the long run I'm fine with a restart I'm not for or against it if it were to happen I wouldnt complain if it didn't happen I wouldnt complain.. One other suggestion if there were tk be a restart maybe everyone can have a chest that can be moved to the new world so they dont lose everything. I would hate to lose my infinity mending bow.

I would love a reset, however, at the same time, I would die a little inside as I've spent over 3 months on my kingdom and to see it be gone in the blink of an eye would probably make me cry.

We would have an old survival world basically for those who dont want to lose their stuff and a new survival world that resets every major update. On a survival server I used to play on, the owner reset the server for 1.8 and changed the ip. The old 1.7 world was still there on the old ip, but the chat was spammed with "New ip! ____". We could go back and see our old bases and items. Here, we could leave up our 1.9 generated Simplex on it's current ip, not really for more building, but so we don't lose out bases and accomplishments forever. Maybe we could even put everyone in spectator and give them /tp. Then on a new ip, we could have a 1.12 generated Simplex with more mansions and fresh land. (Or vice versa, with the 1.12 server on the current ip, and the Old Simplex on a new one.)

I'm still far far from "finished" with the current world, I don't think I will ever be though, but a reset would mean loosing stuff I've worked hard for. I really don't want any reset..

Current map still has lots of unused and unexplored areas, from 20k and up youll stop finding builds, and maybe one or 2 will pop up to the way to 42k, is rather empty and a reset for a not even half used map? i say no, imho

To Veils point maybe a spawn move? idk not too much activity around spawn a lot of big builds but not much to look through and no one to see. I feel like if spawn was moved it might allow a more lively area to do joined build. Also maybe a concerted effort from people who feel bored to find a large clear area and just make a massive build like a statue or something. These could be fun and use up huge amounts of resources.

Why not double the current world border (past 42500) and place a new spawn point at somewhere in the middle of that new area with a tp to the old one. Not sure how taxing it would be on the server if any, but this way, everyone wins!
That's my 2 cents.
