Just wanted to suggest taking off the restriction for these commands. I feel like they don't add anything unfair nor do they compromise the server's semi-vanilla title (this may not be true, just my opinion. I didn't really do any research in what kind of plugins or commands determine a semi-vanilla server). They allow for convenience for finding out how to make specific recipes in game if you have forgotten them, and allow for players to see how long ago their friends last went on the server.
/seen and /recipe
Just a suggestion though.

I agree 100% Sometimes I'll want to know when a player was last on when there isn't a staff member online to let me know. I'll also want to know how to craft something real quick without having to go search it on Google (even tho it's usually fairly quick) but it still makes it a lot simpler. I usually ask in chat "How do I craft _____?" and only 3/10 times I get a response.

I have no issue with ./seen, but IMO /recipe takes away from the survival experience.
Besides, all you have to do is hit the windows key to get to your desktop, launch a web browser and do a Google search for the recipe you want.

well ill respond to this because ive been asked it a lot. I don't think its a good idea to have either of these commands. When I started this server I said to myself you guys would be given the bare necesitties (lol sounds harsh) and nothing more. The reason for that is when you start adding little albeit useful commands the idea of this being as close to vanilla as possible starts to fade, and I don't want that. Sure /seen has no harm at all, but still its a step away from vanilla. /recipe is arguably bad because some people play this game wanting no help at all, not even with crafting. That's my view

Recipe command: It's not a big deal not having this because recipes are openly available online, and if you have been keeping up with the updates, then you'll see that recipes will be displayed in 1.12 which isn't too far off.
Seen command: I would see no harm in enabling this command as it will cut back on constant requests that staff are bombarded with from players wanting to know when their friends were last online. It may sound like a stretch, but maybe you could add the /seen command to the BuyCraft store, because it's technically cosmetic (something you can see, I'd go as far as to say it's something you can /seen).

I think the danger of /seen is it will display the player's IP and last known location via coords. everyone says "it'll cut down having to bother the staff" I personally don't get that many requests and have no problem running the command for any who ask. Its why we are staff, to help ya'll the players. as for the recipe, my honest opinion it would just make the lazy be lazier. google-ing needs to be a thing. dont let it stop being a thing. being able to use google is a life line all young people need to embrace. and i second Meehan on the survival thing. we've had new players be turned off of the server for having things like warps and tpa. I'll also add: If it ain't broke don't fix it ya'll.

Definitely don't think we should have /seen if it gives the player's IP and last known coordinates. That implicates both real-life and in-game privacy issues.

I can confirm that there's a way to make it so that players only see last time a user went online. It also shows how long a player has been on for if they're online. I've seen it on other servers and this is really the only feature I want out off /seen
Once again, this thread was just a suggestion with reasoning based on my opinions. All subjective, just wanted to get my thought out there. I understand if the higher ups think the potential risk outweighs what I believe would be improvements. Eh

If that's how you guys all feel I understand and respect that. However, if the only reason you don't want it is that it shows the IP, it's only because the staffs' PEX group(s) have that extended permission. This is directly from the Essentials permission reference, which is the plugin that contains the /seen command ( wiki.ess3.net/wiki/Command_Reference/Perm). As you can see, the essentials.seen permission would give access to see when a player was on but wouldn't contain the sensitive items such as ban reasons, IPs, and last locations. It would be as easy as typing /pex group default add essentials.seen With those permissions setup, it would look something like this: I would love if you guys reconsidered, however, if not I'm fine either way
