Hi all,
Is it just me, or does it seem like we're always dealing with theft at the shopping district? Does anyone else get tired of dealing with stolen stuff, and all of the drama that usually results from jailed thieves? "I swear I didn't do it!" "[enter name-calling, whining, yelling etc]" Or worse yet, the occasional dirt bag that comes with a dozen accounts repeatedly hitting the shops just for the fun of it.
I'd like to propose two suggestions that I've heard ppl discuss over chat...
#1. Create a warp plate to the Shopping District at spawn, limited to players with 6 votes.
From what I've seen, most of the thefts that occur are done by Starters and Amateurs, so I feel like this idea would cut down the number of thefts that we get from players who just like to pop in and out of servers causing trouble. An additional benefit to this would be giving players who use the Shopping District on a daily basis easier access without using a /sethome.
#2. I've heard about 'Sign Shops' that do some kind of automated trade instead of relying on the trust system.
I know, I know... We're supposed to be 'semi-vanilla' and some ppl think this Sign Shop system might not be vanilla enough. Well, before coming here, I played solo pure vanilla for more than a year, and imo having sethomes is a Much bigger deviation from vanilla than having a secure trading system. I used to have to spend time traveling between locations in my solo game, I used to have to worry about getting lost when I went exploring/caving/mining. Sethomes completely eliminates that aspect of vanilla, so I feel like if sethomes are acceptable, Sign Shops should be no big deal.
Thanks for reading. I hope Meehan and the Admins give this serious consideration, as I feel like reducing theft at the Shopping District would greatly improve play experience for many many Simplexers.
