Holding the title of Mayor of a town was something I've been wanting to take a crack at here on Simplex 2 but with my current goals, limited time, and lack of claimblocks I'm just going to release the idea and have it up for grabs. My confidence in promoting, building in, and running a public player town grew as I analyzed why towns on Simplex 1 failed. The threads I've made in the past pointing them out prove that. Knowing enough about the wrongs with towns that are eventually abandoned I wanted find my own.
I would begin by finding a plains biome and put a large claim over it. Plots for new residents would be made on-demand. The resident would pick a shape of the subclaim and place it where they like within the town's claim. I would fall back to making plots myself then players picking an open one if that idea was too problematic.
My main incentive for building in the town would be access to resident only farms. I would build enough to get the town started then build more down the line. I don't know how to make all the farms in this game so for some more advanced farms I didn't learn to build yet I would ask for outside help or for help from one of the residents.
I would use the sign system like the shopping district or marketplace uses for activity but I would have signs last for 1 or 2 months. After that I would tear down what they have in their plot and auction it off, take it for myself to put back into building farms, or some other method.
As for the name of the town and what blocks I would use, I don't know, I didn't think that far yet.
So there is my idea for a town which I'm now leaving behind to continue working on my current projects.
