Good (early) morning Simplex, it's 3 4 in the morning on a Thursday.
This on-going pandemic has most definitely had an impact on all of our day-to-day lives. (If anything, it has made us all collectively clock more hours into Simplex.) It has spared no one of a sense of normalcy. It's important to remember that while we're in this turbulent time, it has an end as all things do.
And you, yes you can help end this pandemic yourself at home and in your community. Here are just a couple of ways you can help.
At home!
At home!
- Wash your hands!
-Hand sanitizer that is less than 60% alcohol may not be enough to kill any COVID-19 on your person, according to a study by the State of New Jersey.
-Wash your hands as often as you can, about as often as if you've just touched a ton of jalapeno peppers and want to rub your eyes without experiencing the afterlife.
-Soap is king, S+ tier. 20 seconds is the rule, scrub and sing happy birthday twice to Tom Hanks. - Remember not to touch your face!
-The most common way to get infections in general is to touch your eyes, mouth, or nose since they all have routes to the inside of your body.
-Touching your face once is most likely not going to infect you, remind yourself not to do it again should you find yourself touching fruits at the grocery store before realizing that mistakes were made. - Have faith in science!
-The Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization are here to help us. They are institutions designed by the people, for the people, and have done so much research funded by the people.
-Nearly half a million people are dead due to COVID-19 in the United States, according to the CDC. There's no need to panic, but take that number into consideration when you have decisions to make moving forward. Please don't be a statistic.
- Stay Inside!
-I know that it's tempting to meet with people, or even just be out and about town, but really do think to yourself, is it worth the potential risk to you or others, especially your loved ones who might be most vulnerable?
-And if you really have to go out, remember to always mask up. If you want to get exercisial at home, here's a link to a guide that has helped me out during quarantine. Also don't underestimate the amount of Sun exposure you need! - Get Tested!
-If you have COVID-19 symptoms, you must get tested to avoid infecting others. Testing is free in all states, many pharmacies do COVID-19 testing and appointments for drive-ins can be made in every US State's COVID-19 dashboard which will be linked below. It is quick, painless, and results come back within a few days. In most professions, a positive COVID-19 test is enough for sick leave. You must quarantine for 14 days if you test positive, and avoid contact with anyone or anything other people might touch. - Vaccine Eligibility!
-If you live in the United States, each State/County has their own COVID-19 dashboard and plans as to who is eligible to get the vaccine and where to make appointments. Each US State's dashboard will be linked down below.
-If you live outside of the United States, you may have to do some research of your own. Most countries already have vaccination rollout and websites to visit. - Volunteers needed for Vaccine Distribution!
-With so many people to vaccinate and so much vaccine to distribute, as a nation and a planet, we need all hands on deck. Most States/Territories have applications within their COVID-19 websites where you can volunteer to distribute COVID-19 vaccine to the people who need it in your county. It's a selfless action, and a heroic stance. There is no doubt risk to infection, but if you take the proper precautions, enough time, and/or have already been vaccinated yourself, there is nothing more courageous and patriotic right now than to help others in your area get vaccinated as well. Links will be down below.
Quick QnA about COVID-19 Vaccination:
-I'm hesitant about the COVID-19 vaccines/They don't work.
Your concerns are valid. However, both Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines are effective against the newer strains of COVID-19, according to a paper by The New England Journal of Medicine. There are side effects, as the CDC states. However, these side effects are mild and will only result in some discomfort for a few days, the CDC says. A moderate amount of skepticism is healthy, but don't let it turn into paranoia that will endanger you and those around you.
I do not know for sure your stance on vaccination, but if you are eligible I implore you to get an appointment. If not for yourself, for those around you. The ones you love, your friends, their vulnerable loved ones.
There's no telling whose lives or how many of them will be broken from a simple visit to the store, or accidentally bumping into a stranger. I speak from unfortunate experience.
The only surefire way you can protect yourself and others is to get vaccinated.

-I already had COVID-19, I have to be immune.
There is no guarantee that your body has produced the antibodies required to be immune against COVID-19, and reinfection is possible and happens often. Both FDA approved vaccines are proven to immunize your body against COVID-19 for good, as well as reinforcing it against the newer strains which your body may not be prepared for otherwise. The CDC has their own article debunking other COVID-19 myths that the public might not know are false. The vaccine is free, and all you need to do is make an appointment with your County when it's your turn. Herd immunity is key to shutting this pandemic down.
As some of you know, I have been through some recent traumatic events. I would not wish any of that on anyone or anyone's family, ever. I write this forum post in the hope of reaching out to those who are most vulnerable, those wanting to help, and those wanting a sense of direction or and hope that there is an end. We will all be with our friends and loved ones again, able to move past this crisis. You can help that future arrive sooner rather than later.
