So I've seen a lot of newcomers pop up as of late, myself included! (Hi!); and through that, a thought popped up into my head.
In short, and this thread is open for any and all discussion - how would Simplex feel about having a raffle/ticket draw as an reoccurring event in-game. For those that aren't aware of what a ticket draw is - it's essentially a little game in which you purchase a ticket - and if your number comes up, you win and get a prize. Nothing more, nothing less!
So what's the best way to execute that idea? The way I personally think might be best would be to:
- Have the ticket raffles be for certain rank brackets, for two reasons; One it'll give newcomers a nice reward that'll help them out, and two it'll encourage voting for the server which in turn helps supply it with more newcomers. While we certainly got no activity issues, and the server was actually full last night, it might be a nice incentive regardless. As example:
- First raffle rank: Amateur, Novice, Apprentice. -- Acquires low-tier to mid-tier on winning. The cost of such can be something cheap in turn, like a gold bar, or a few iron bars.
- Second raffle rank: Journeyman, Veteran, Adept. -- Acquires mid-tier to high-tier on winning. The cost of such would be something mid-level; like perhaps an emerald or several of one item.
- Third raffle rank: Expert, Master, Grandmaster, God. -- Acquires high tier, perhaps something from the in-game stores themselves. Higher cost, but better rewards. Diamonds perhaps.
Tickets should be restricted to one per person so that everyone has an equal chance of winning (at least for the lower-tiers, perhaps such a restriction can be lifted from the third rank), it'll be a buy-in and wait till raffle day system. (Again to minimize time consumed too, since someone would have to write which number is attached to which user; perhaps write in-game into a book or keep an excel/discord log even.) The person with the winning ticket doesn't have to be online at the time (time-zones, school, work, etc), the news can be posted in Discord though it'd certainly be fun if they were around at the time of drawing.
- What kind of rewards might one receive?
Entirely up to the staff to decide but what I personally think might be fun, centered around the first raffle rank:
- The winner gets transported (with anyone who wants to watch) to a massive sheep pen. They are given a pair of shears and have 30-60 seconds (or however long is appropriate) to run around and shear as many sheep as you can. You get to keep the wool. (Which can then be used to craft, build and trade with, further investing the person into the server and giving them a chance to meet more people!)
- A variant of this would be a cow/pig/chicken pen, give the user a gold sword and slay as many cows as you can. Keep whatever drops.
- The winner is transported into an "treasure biome" which is something I picture to to be like a small-spherical jungle biome with glass covering it all around. Except it has a whole bunch of chests in it, and you get to open one/two/three. This could be great for multiple winners too in case people want to elect several people to be a winner instead of one. It could again be timed, put them in an obstable arena with chests scattered all around and you get to keep whatever you loot. (Loot previously being put in there by the staff of course.) Have people climb up to places with vines, jump from tree top to tree top. A bit of parkour to let them grab the chest that's just right in their eyes.
For the second rank: - A combat biome as a reward, you transport someone into an arena with a reasonable amount of monsters - they go in with a blank inventory but are given armour and a weapon of choice. (Bow, sword, etc); whatever they kill before getting killed or before the timer runs out, they can keep. This could be great with different amount of mobs, from zombies to blaze's. It's okay to die, the staff can pick up whatever you drop and hand it back to you once you did. (Though you should of course stand a fighting chance.) Let the person have a safe-house that's a one-way exit so when they are ready, they mash the button and go in guns blazing.
- Treasure biome with better rewards. - Or something else that's not simply "Hey you won, here's your stuff" but interactive. Both fun to do and to watch someone try their hardest.
For the third rank: - You get the idea, everything previously mentioned but better. Items could include things sold on the store, such as the enchanted diamond pickaxe and what not.
- More difficult enemies, maybe give them a free ride into the Nether to slay the dragon or giant hoards of pigmen. They are presumably better armoured and experienced at the game at this point! - Entirely off the chart since I have no idea what the rules/regulations are for stores, and if they require upkeep or anything of the sort - but a bigger/better/cheaper store in the marketplace? It could be a temporary plot near the spawn area, given it gets the most visibility by people. They could own that till the next raffle, after which it changes owners and they can redecorate/change things.
That's all I had for now. Would love to read your input. I'm not part of the staff or anything, so I have no final say over what the eventual execution of this idea may look like or if it will even make it to the game at all, but I think like the football field and shopping mall area, it'll add a small, if extra dimension to the server and if the rewards as chosen carefully, won't impact the server economy too much while still providing the feeling of winning to the well... winner!. (Especially when going the treasure biome/combat biome idea, it'd be super cool to be transported there.)

Hello there, This is one of the most thought out ideas I have seen in a while on here, but I do not think this is going to be implemented. Let me pick this apart for a bit. ==================== " - First raffle rank: Amateur, Novice, Apprentice.
" -From what Ive, most* players usually have a decent amount of diamonds by the time they hit Apprentice. So these prices would definitely have to go up imo. -Apprentice rank has access to the shopping district, which would give em a massive advantage over the lower ranks player given that they could just pay 3 diamonds and get a stack of iron blocks. -Having to get something from the stores, I'm not sure what you mean. The SD does not sell unique items (unless you count map arts, but even then you could get those from the player that makes em if you ask the right person), most* players at this point have over a stack of db, with a raffle of something of the rewards that you said, I beelieve that the risk to join should be a bit higher than a couple of diamonds like I am getting from your idea. ==================== " Tickets should be restricted to one per person so that everyone has an equal chance of winning (at least for the lower-tiers, perhaps such a restriction can be lifted from the third rank), it'll be a buy-in and wait till raffle day system. " -Where would all this "profit" from the raffles be going? I'm sure that staff would most likely not profit from this, but why would I want to toss away some of my items for the small small chance to win something, with a much bigger chance of the items just going out into the nothingness. The 3rd tier that you described is incredibly unevenly distributed. Taking a look at just diamonds, Some players in that bracket have as little as 600 diamonds at any given points, thats just over a stack of db, while some other players have over 60,000+ diamonds just sitting in their chests somewhere. Having it one person per ticket, imo, is better for all ranks or no ranks, keep it the same. -What if the winner leaves the server or has been banned? Would the ticket then go to the next winner? -Not everyone has discord, would be better to mail em, I would not want to see #announcements fill with pings of something that does not effect me. =================== -I'm not gonna post the whole rewards list that you have, but in short, this feels like a lot of work for staff. -By Market place (while there is one), I am assuming you mean the SD which has the warp to it. We don't charge for plots, and plot sizes are based on how close you are to the center, and how many people you are working with. We ain't just gonna kick someone out of their plot to give someone else their plot as a reward for a raffle they might not of even known about. (If you want to read more about how the SD works, here is a link to its Discord: discord.gg/P5xA2UC -Most of these prizes any player can do by the time they reach God lvl, so imo these rewards aint really great. I already got a giant biome arena that I can go in and just fight mobs in all day. (Join the Game District Discord if ya want more info on that + other games we have: discord.gg/ts3caG4 ) -I don't think mods are just gonna spawn in new items for players to have, they just don't really do that. ==================== "but I think like the football field and shopping mall area" -Thanks, I built both of em. ==================== "if the rewards as chosen carefully, won't impact the server economy too much" -These current rewards probs won't impact it too much at all. -Best "reward" from this, would be killing a ghast in the mob arena (If that would be in the overworld) to get the advancement, because as far as ik, you still can't bring nether mobs into the overworld without them despawning. ==================== TDLR: -Overall I think this is a good idea, but too little risk and the rewards don't seem all that good when the gods already have access to just about all of these. -Too much work for staff.

I quite like this idea, but there have been lots of raffles, giveaways, draws, etc. If this idea is to come to Simplex, it has to be executed in a much more professional fashion, especially with the fact that I doubt staff will pick it up, being as they already have lots of work around the server.
1. The incentives for lower ranks to participate needs to be alot more than the prize pool that would be put out for God/GrandMaster/Master. If it costs 10 diamonds for a new player to enter, and they only have a CHANCE of winning a couple iron ingots, etc, it makes entering not worth it. Higher ranks usually have more diamonds, and would be more willing to put in 10 diamonds for something that could be worth 200 diamonds.
2. There's always going to be SOME conflict that comes with this, if someone feels as if they've been scammed, or inconvenienced in any sort, they're going to complain until the cows come home. Take the easter egg hunt back in May for example. People were accusing others of using xray to find the eggs, others were inconvenienced because some brought & were using speed potions, etc. So you have to keep in mind what kind of arguements you're going to start.
Not sure if I just accidentally paraphrased Choo's statement, but there's my view.

Hey you two! Thanks for the input so far, lots to pick apart in two responses so I'll do my best! I have not looked too deeply in how long it would acquire to take each rank - but looking at them now! Amateur is acquired on the first day through one vote, Novice will take three days after that if you don't max out your votes. (I'm not, so I'm going with the assumption that the other newcomers aren't either.); Apprentice another four days. So let's say the first rank is a week for when you play actively. Then, yes, in a week you'll likely have acquired a fair amount of equipment already given how easy it is to acquire on the server so far. With a little help, joining someone who has a beacon for some co-op fast mining and a whole lot of digging on my own, I'm sitting around nearly a stack of diamonds though haven't been here for a full week yet.
So I agree there! The prices will need fine-tuning by people that have been around for longer then myself, to strike a right balance there.
I momentarily forgot that apprentice ranks do have access to the shopping mall. So perhaps it might be the easiest to 'scrap' the first three ranks all together and start thinking from Apprentice and up in terms of costs/rewards.
Fair question on the first one. Given I was hoping/thinking it should be run by the staff, whatever 'profit' was there, could simply be tossed into the lava for as far as I'm concerned. (Or be put aside for server-wide buildings/projects or something? Though I assume those are build in creative.)
Regarding the winner - If you get banned off the server but happen to win through the ticket, your prize should be forfeit and a new winner should be selected. From what I can tell, you don't get banned lightly and the rules are rather clear/well laid out. Consider it more incentive to not break them.
Regarding Discord - Easy enough solution. Create a channel called 'RaffleWinners' and set it to only respond to pings involving your name. Alternatively, it can be stated in-game, a message can be delivered, a sign post can be set up, the person can be whispered. Many options. Discord really isn't an issue, it's simply an easy way to communicate and the majority is already using it from what I can see, for those that don't, there's plenty of other ways.
The reward list was merely an idea-list that I thought would be fun in terms of rewards, not inconclusive or finalized by any means (given that I feel it is up to the staff to settle on rewards). While the balancing beforehand may take some time, once a list of 'agreeable rewards' has been made, it won't be a lot of work to hop on - put stuff into chests and hop off again every X period.
At no point did I state that a person should be kicked out of their plot. Of course they shouldn't be, that wouldn't make sense. But I'm sure something can be build, or a plot can be set somewhere, to be a temporary "Winner's store" of some kind. I feel like that this like the Discord, is a non-issue and can easily be solved.
They could if it was in the spirit of server-events, fun and community building. That's up to the staff however.
Feels a bit like a non-issue to me again. If it's led by the staff, announced in the fun-raffle/game it's meant to be, and both the prize pool and rules of such have been sorted and laid out beforehand, people will know what they are getting into - thus there's no reason to argue. If they can't take the loss, don't join. It's not meant to be a game-changing event by any means, just a fun addition that you can do perfectly fine without - but brings the community together for the unveiling and to have a bit of fun with. I however, was not around back in May so can't compare my idea to the situation you mentioned. X-ray at least won't be of any help given it's a raffle.
Cheers for the thoughts!

We do have a fun event coming up next weekend, Halloween event. We also usually have a Christmas event and "Easter" event. For info on the Halloween one, please have a look at the "events" section and read up on it. As for the Christmas one, I will be putting out a post where players will comment what they'd like for minecraft christmas (within reason ofc) And the Easter event it a fun "egg" hunt where players go out looking for shulkers hidden in a specific area(with a warp to it ofc.) In between we usually have fun little build comps where players who participate also get at the very least a little reward.

Sounds grand! I wasn't aware of any of those yet - so happy to read about it! Will try and make the Halloween event, that sounds absolutely brilliant!
