We should use DiscordSRV to bridge the Simplex Discord server with chat. DiscordSRV can keep logs, allow people to chat through discord, and so much more.
Really a question for Meehan but the setup's really simple so anyone can do it.

Obviously logs would be kept in a staff only channel. Other than that, having a discord channel that pipes into chat would be really cool bc it would eliminate the need for 3rd party chat clients.

While one benefit of this is that it would reduce the number of people taking server spots on minechat/pickaxechat, I feel like it could add a lot of clutter. The expectation when you log in is that the people chatting are people who are in game. It seems weird to have people lurking in discord.

I have seen servers running this kind of stuff. It is pretty messy to see the chat in game and in chat. During peak hours chat is allready hard to keep track of. If there are more people just comming by to chat then keeping up with it is almost impossible. Think about what people can do if they are banned from the server and start spamming the chat using that channel. So thats the main reason I think it is not a great thing. Yeah it is cool and interesting but there are a lot of downsides to this.
As a minechat user I want to point out it is not only to chat. I mostly use it to afk not so much to chat. But thats on a side note here.

So my personal opinion is if we were to do something I would say do an IRC channel that goes through the chat. It makes the player go through effort to sign in and what not so you don’t get every discord user in the channel using it and it will also help reduce people using apps that take up a player block just to chat. But hey again that my opinion.
