Simplex is four years old!

Back in December 2016, I wandered onto the server, headed north, found a desert and started building. Over the years, I've built a few houses and things.

My first time to log in to Simplex was 2017-03-27. Kitty was GrandMaster rank. VeilStar was Master rank. I teleported to the wild, found a partly-raided village that still had some villagers, and started to build my home there. Then I got a feeling... scouted around... and sure enough, about 200 blocks away was a small "commune": about 3-4 very nice homes built within about 50 blocks of each other.

I knew about the distance-from-existing-builds rule, so I asked for help figuring out what to do. Kitty scouted me a new location and let me TP there (as a favor, since I was a Starter being a Good Boi and not a Stinky Jerk). And that's where my base is still.

I joined around the summer of 2016. I walked from the old spawn about 3000 blocks to a spot I can probably still find if I tried to retrace my steps, started mining there, hit the mining limit, and quietly played minecraft for a few days. Once I had geared up enough for the time being I set out on an adventure to find a more permanent place to stay.

...Which is when I came across a village that had a villager with a perfect mending trade, 10 emeralds and a book for mending. I decided to settle there. People didn't even sell mending books back then and this was the start to my diamond insanity. But I didn't know that back then.

Sadly almost all my old screenshots are gone as the hard drive died I used to store these on died (RIP) but I still have some:

Yes I was using gold swords as my weapon. And shulker boxes weren't even a thing back then. Oh, and elytras were completely unusable because of the anti-cheat.

Happy birthday Simplex. ~5000 hours well spent <3

I joined a bit over a year ago now with some old friends trying to reconnect in college playing minecraft. It was just the server we were looking for, we wanted to build and mine without worry over being greifed.

My first week was very interesting, we found a great spot that we stuck with, it's been pretty amazing to watch it grow and change over time as a huge group effort.
Also during the first week, I was given a trident for free by massani which made my month. This was back when they were 500d, and our group shared it between ourselves.

I've said this before, but the community ended up being what really made us stay. It was amazing to join and be greeted with a bunch of "wb!"s. Players would recognize each other and congratulate them on rank-ups. I got so addicted that I got to 500 votes by the end of the year. I wish I could have been around for simplex's early days, but here's to hoping people will look back at this as the early days.
