Left Handed Mute Appeal

I did learn my lesson this time.
thank you for expiring the 5 minute mute, means the world to me.

Wyatt's love life isn't something I should be joking about, and I will give him nothing but the utmost respect from here on out.

I'd like to start this off by saying I respect your decision to permanently mute me, but I don't completely agree with your reasoning behind it and I'm going to use this opportunity to explain why.

I don't complain about every punishment like your post would imply, because some of the mutes I completely agree with - there's been a few times where I feel I have crossed the line and went too far. Where i've missed the mark of funny and went into inappropriate territory.
I've only complained about the ones that seemed unfair for me to be muted over. I'm not spineless, so if I don't agree with something I don't think I should have to be a slave to the "staff is perfect, and can never be wrong" mindset.

^ yes, in that one I went too far, and regretted sending it almost as soon as I hit enter.

The problem is there's no delete button in minecraft. If you go back and check the logs I never once complained about that one either.

^ In this one it was after I was being irritable to SnuRRe, and at the time I felt that I was targetted with that mute as it was a conflict of interest.

I did complain after that mute, and looking back: I gave SnuRRe a really hard time, and shouldn't have. SnuRRe, if you are reading this, I am sorry for all the shit I have given you over the years.

You work hard, and you singlehandedly carry the staff team and half of the server. And for that, I'd like to thank you.

^ In that one, I definitely had crossed the line, and hurt Crafty's feelings over it. I felt bad over it, and really didn't mean to hurt his feelings and so I apologized to him.

I was already sorry for saying it, and had even expressed remorse over it before the mute was even applied.

Sure, I may not be the best at apologizing, but I was actually sorry having said that. I was only trying to tell what I thought to be a harmless joke to lighten the mood, and I really wasn't trying to offend or hurt him.

If I had known his situation, or even considered that not everyone likes this type of humor, then I would have NEVER said that joke. And I guess that only helps support your claim that I don't think about how things I say in chat affect others.

Honestly, half of the time I say the first thing that enters my head and being a fast typer, I type it faster than I can decide not to.

^ This was the only mute that I actively remember complaining about. I was muted AFTER saying something about Christmas and Jesus. That was my last message about it, and I would've easily changed the topic afterwards.

Muting me for 10 minutes didn't change what I had said, I still had said it. A 10 minute mute isn't the same thing as a delete button, and there was no taking it back.

Additionally, I saw no issue in talking about Christmas or Jesus from a non-biased historical standpoint (and not a religious standpoint). I have seen countless people post Christmas/Jesus related memes on the simplex discord, so from that precedent I thought it *should* have been more than okay to say in chat.

I'm more than willing to take my share of the blame, where it's due. However, I only expect the same from you guys.

When you had mentioned that I complain about my punishments, you made it out to seem that I had a long list of them and that I complained about every single one. However, this is not the case.

And I can only assume that what you meant by me complaining about "others punishments" is that you are referring to my complaints about Darth's ban, which WAS more than unfair. (or at least appeared that way, as he was never told why he was banned; the only reasons given for his ban were things he had said in voice chat that were taken out of context or taken the wrong way and were later refuted or forgiven)

Also, it's sort of unfair for you to say: "you can't have opinions without knowing all the facts" when you don't even make an effort of making the facts known.

I believe that a lot of good could come from improving the communication between the staff and players and even the communication among staff members. I also believe that being more transparent with changes could be a good thing.

I could probably spend a whole thread on the topic of improving communication, and how it would benefit everyone. However for now, I'm just going to bring up the time I ranted to SnuRRe about the void bug.

I gave him way too hard of a time for that and treated him with a lot of disrespect. But you have to understand that when I complain, I don't just do it to complain. I complain for a reason.

Before the void bug, there was a nasty bug with the anticheat preventing boats from moving fast on ice that really needed fixed, and I reported it to SnuRRe and he shrugged it off like it was nothing. Weeks later, Veil noticed it was a bug and fixed it and asked why nobody had reported it before. But I had already (so I thought) reported it.

So when the void/carpet bug came around where players would lose their items just from teleporting, I was already still upset from the last bug and how it was just ignored so I wanted to make sure this new one didn't get ignored. I reported it as soon as it happened to me, and Veil started replacing items I had using the "honor system".

I was hoping that since I reported it early, that it'd be fixed or at least some steps would be taken to reduce it's impact. And as a player, I was interested in the bug's status because it affects me as a player. So I would've much preferred to have been kept in the loop of developments.

A month later, I saw that another player had died due to the bug and it looked like staff was still using the "honor system" for replacing items. Frustrated from what seemed like a pattern of nothing getting done: I ranted in chat and ended up getting into an argument with SnuRRe over it. Looking back, I definitely was too hard on SnuRRe, and was honestly a brat and a nuisance through the whole thing. However, the entire argument was because I thought literally NOTHING had been done for a month, when in reality : there was a new plugin added to better automate the replacing of items and to get rid of the opportunity for players to abuse the honor system.

I had no clue that the plugin was added because the change wasn't made known to players. Making changes like this public, and being transparent to players could help prevent arguments and misunderstandings like this in the future.

You won't hear any complaining from me about this mute, and here's why: a lot of times I say things in chat and only realize how it affect players AFTER I send them, and after I see how it affects players.

I don't think ahead. A 5-10 minute mute applied to me after I've sent something that I already regret sending doesn't help change that I sent it. And similarly, a 5-10 minute mute over something I impulsively sent out of habit isn't going to magically change years of habits. either.
However, maybe this mute will make a difference in my behavior. I'm as curious to see how this turns out as you are.

^That. That right there. If I can offer any input, something that would be accepted in the genuine spirit in which it is intended: learn to pause. Take a breath. Learn to run these thoughts through a filter *before* saying them out loud or committing them to the (virtual) page.

Because as you noted, once they're out there it's too late. The damage is done, and you can't un-ring the bell.

If this is causing you problems here, I imagine it's causing you problems elsewhere. Maybe it's strained a friendship, or a relationship, or a job.

Maybe not... in which case, that's a good thing.

But I think you're a very smart person. And I think you can see where that road goes.

Just learn to pause... create a moment of space between "sarcastic inner-child shit-poster thought of this HILARIOUS thing to say (or do)" and the realization, a moment later (after the thought has left your mouth or your fast-typing fingers), that maybe it was only going to be funny to *you*, and not to the person(s) who were hurt by it.

I know we aren't in-real-life friends. Just acquaintances in a gaming community. But please take this in the spirit of kindness in which it's intended -- regardless of whatever happens here going forward.
