Ban Appeal for X ray false positive

Hi, Tiralee. I'm the one who gave you the tempban.

This was a difficult and painful decision. You had MANY (8 pages of logblock records) previous diamond-mining sites, most looked clean (most of the time: strip mined, got lucky). Then this one site gave the appearance that you saw (via xray?) a large vein just out of the way, and couldn't resist it. Even if you'd continued your zigzag pattern of mining, you would have missed it, as it was off to the side and below you, with nothing but stone in between. I.e. no other ores to lead you to them. You had to stairstep down to hit them, and you didn't do that in any of your other sites that I inspected. (See screenshots below.)

I checked out some more of your earlier locations, and there were a few others that look similarly sketchy ("lucky"), although most were clearly just the result of effort.

This was a difficult call, though, because you're not the usual "cheating Starter" scenario. You have a nice, well-organized base; and have put considerable effort into mining most of your ores. It's still possible that you have just been repeatedly lucky. But to be fair to others who have come under similar scrutiny, I imposed the tempban and removed your diamond gear and valuable ores.

I appreciate your sincerity, though. So I have taken the VERY unusual step of returning your gear and most of your valuable ores. I kept some, in proportion to the sketchy/doubtful sites. To be clear, though: this tempban still counts as "strike one", even though the punishment was light. A second strike will be a permanent ban.

I hope you think this is fair, and absolutely not a slam against your character.

I also hope that others who read this will understand that we are serious about not tolerating xray on this server. We've got good tools to help us catch it, and over time as a team we've gotten pretty good at interpreting what happened. Still, we're human, and sometimes we err. When we do, we generally try to correct our error.
