My issue with that question is, there is no argument for phantoms. My response is, are there arguments for cave spiders, silverfish, bats, or zombies? Again, just sleep. Have a set home by your bed and a set home where you’re working. Not that hard. I agree with GovernorEvan. One of the first items you can craft in the game is a bed, it is not hard to sleep in one every few nights. Also its not as though it would be super frequent, ever few nights is every 15 minutes. They may be annoying, yes, but are they more annoying than cave spiders? I find cave spiders and there small hit box to be very annoying. Can we get those removed too? All I'm saying is that this may be a slippery slope to many other "small changes" that would eventually join the pile of veilbows and other 'not really vanilla' things.

Yeah, phantoms shouldn't be removed so that membranes can still be acquired. I love the idea of insomnia only kicking in after 7-9 nights.
Meehan, phantoms are incredibly annoying when you are dedicated to a task like building or exploring. It is very easy to forget to sleep when you are focused, and phantoms take you out of your task. A longer time before they spawn would allow players to still spawn them, but give a lot more leeway into their intrusion. Another point about them is that they can be very laggy, especially when the server is under stress. I've seen it many times when players are clustered and phantoms start spawning. Everyone begins trying to shoot them down but lag makes it very difficult. Anyone can attest that lag sometimes makes it so that bows don't even work right, and only every fourth or fifth shot actually functions as intended.

I really do agree with you here, I think the phantoms rolling up to the club every 7-9 nights would work wonders. Therefore we can keep membranes and still repair elytras!

I agree that completely removing phantoms isn't really an option, because the phantom membranes do have a few uses. (~5 pieces can repair an elytra, and 9 pieces can make a shulker's worth of slowfalling potions). Perhaps the original post and poll should be updated to reflect our actual options.
However, I don't think anyone disagrees that phantoms are a pain. Extending the time until phantoms spawn to 7-9+ days might be enough of a compromise to make everyone happy and to help us sleep at night, however that only addresses half of the problem.
Unfortunately, even if you have religiously slept every single night, all it takes is for one player who hasn't slept in a while to be in your area to get them to spawn and come after you. This can be seen very clearly in the shopping district, where there's public beds all over the place and yet phantoms are still a huge problem. Maybe another option we could consider is having it so that as long as one player has slept in the area that they won't spawn.

I will edit the poll when I get home because these forums are blocked on school wifi and I cant do it on mobile

Personally I'd address the issue by disabling phantom spawning entirely and making phantom membranes obtainable by other means, such as making them a bat drop, or having zombies have a chance to spawn holding one (similar to how drowned can spawn holding a nautilus shell). Not very vanilla though, I guess.

Heck, we could even make phantom membrane one of the voting rewards :3

I've seen another server make an area accessible by a warp where only phantoms spawn. Using such a precious warp just for phantoms is not worth it seeing how we have limited warps. Maybe they can be accessed in one of the existing warps or maybe we can have phantoms only spawn in non-claimed areas.

I thought about that claim idea, but I think they would still be really annoying when exploring. We walk out of claims constantly, so they wouldn't really spawn less. It would be interesting if they didn't spawn by default but you could toggle a claim to allow them to spawn. Sort of like how pvp works (granted only staff has that toggle for pvp).

I really like Zanril's idea of only having them spawn outside of claims. This would easily keep them away from the shopping district and would also let them leave you alone while building. Leave it to Zanril for the simple, yet genius solutions.

Wear gold helmet = no mean bats. Ya know, that's not a bad idea lol, we could also have it so if you hold a certain item in your inventory it keeps the meanie birds away
