Unless you are at a pawn shop, most stores will not appreciate you as a customer dropping of items and taking money out of their registers.
anyway, the district is player run and its in their rule book:
Ignorance of the rules does not mean you can break the rules. It is the players responsibility to read them and ask any questions if unsure.

yes but I read the sign rules at spawn which at the time did not have the reverse shopping rule on them.

The shopping district is not run by the server. it is a player made, player run entity. Just because a mod is currently in charge doesn't make it a server run entity. It just means I too like to play like a normal player.  |

there are specific shops that allow "either place diamond(s) where the item you want is or take the diamond(s) and leave x item." like FadingSun had/(has?) at their shop for wood. but reverse shopping is typically a no go unless stated otherwise.
