You may have seen my British Isles thread, in which I have made a 4 map 1:1 scale British Isles. This terraforming of the two islands I had found in the ocean had taken less than a day, which prompts me to bring the question; could this be done, but with Europe as a whole? Specifically as a 1:4 map or even 1:8 map with perhaps the Middle East and North Africa included? I would think so. And I would definitely be inclined to begin such a thing, regardless of help, but ultimately I feel as if we could make this Europe-building project of mine more of a server project. Assuming we reset for 1.14, this could very well affect many parts of how we manage things such as economy and community as well! For the terraforming plan scroll past these; here are some points which the server may or may not comply to:
Nations: The whole of Europe will be wilderness for a player, or nation-founder to claim. Flags will be instrumental for nations; if a settlement of four or more has the same flag over it, it will become an official Simplex nation. The name of the nation is up to the player who claimed it. Let it be known that whoever controls the capital/most populous city in the country will probably have the right to be called king of leader of that nation. Voting a player as king could also work. I figure war will probably come of this vague way of deciding leaders though, perhaps resulting in feudal city-states all over. For example, Northumbria's settlement has a proposed king for Britain while East Anglia has another proposed king, creating national division and as a result smaller kingdoms come of it.
Economy: I encourage nation leaders or kings, or just small settlement leaders to establish a market in the capital, as that what will help the country to flourish, and that's where players are going to gravitate to naturally, in order to sell their items there and so forth. As an alternative to /warp shop, players who live in Europe can enter their local market for purchasing items. Certain nations will probably specialize in different items. I imagine the UK would be an agricultural powerhouse while Berlin and Moscow would have a lot of military equipment. We can only really know when or if Europe is built and people start living there though.
Community: This could very well bind a gargantuan amount of the Simplex together in which efforts are made to build up this continent. Entire local towns, and local markets, and just independent homesteads lead by individual players can all co-exist under this haven. It would make for a swell first project assuming we reset as well. Players could establish their own nations with custom names, or just ones based off of actual real life nations.
Claiming in the name of a nation: With the nations thing mentioned, it should be said that any individuals have the right to claim the land of Europe, as it's mostly gonna be wilderness initially. But for nations to officially claim a town or land as theirs, their flag would have to be at least somewhat prevalent throughout the site.
Leadership: A nation's leader is the one with the most populous city, unless vote interferes or a nation split interferes. The people will get to decide who "reigns" over them. If there is turmoil between two towns or cities, they may be permitted to split as a nation. A feudal system, knowing Minecraft players and SIMPLEX players of all, will probably be the most likely result of this.
Potential PvP battlegrounds: Now this one is purely a suggestion if Meehan and the staff would find this to be an interesting idea; we could have a battleground where nations in Europe could fight actual wars. Although to be fair, this could be completely possible with just the PvP arena we have at spawn.
Empires: It'd be interesting to see what the European nations would do with the continents near it and whether or not colonization would become a thing. I could very well see nations in southern and western Europe, as well as Russia (depending on whether or not it's attached to land) having external settlements with their banners there. Then it would be possible for members of these nations to move into OTHER continents in the map and claim them in the name of their country. Perhaps I've been playing too much Risk, but that indeed sounds like an awesome thing to me.
Alright, now we have the plan for the whole terraforming of this continent. It'll likely fill up a 1:4 map, but if that's too little then we could do 1:8. I think that'll probably be enough space for everyone; if not, we can work on doing Asia/Africa and the Americas as a continuation project. I figure I'll choose a continent near spawn that will resemble Europe the most (snow/mountains up north, desert/plains down south), and establish ocean around the areas where ocean is not present. Players may donate dirt and so forth to the cause, and help dig out Europe. It also most likely won't begin till we update to 1.14, regardless of whether or not we have a map reset. Thanks for reading. This won't be nearly as organized as I want it to be, but it will be grand, I can assure you.
