Ik I am gonna a get alot of hate for this but I need to be heard. I am completely on board with your idea kitty except for claim blocks. Some people have over a million. They could claim alot of area instantly. I feel like u shuld start with so many claim blocks for the rank u achieved e.g God ranks get 50000 or something. And maybe if you donated u get 10 percent of the blocks u purchased. Though I am just spitballing but that seems fair tribute to those who earned it but balances better for new players.

If you've paid for / been bought claimblocks, you should still have them added to your rank's worth of blocks... afterall, they've been paid for. That's like buying a PC game... but then you get a new PC and aren't allowed to play the game on a new PC....

Though in fairness... most consoles are backwards-compatible!

As a newer player, I see some pros and some cons for either path (reset or no reset)...
I hope you all take a step back and realize it is the community that makes this server so awesome, and unlike anything else I out there
There are servers with bigger, even crazier builds, Silly mods, fun distractions, frequent resets, more historic builds, etc....
Corny as it may sound, Simplex really does have a pretty special something about it.
The amazing builds don't make the community The cool new blocks don't make the community Starting over with wooden tools won't break the community.
I can't be a dork with Cake at spawn on some other server. I can't find that glee when a power user throws me a cookie in single player. I haven't found anywhere else that cheers when I rank up, or when I share my silly ideas and builds.
I can always jump on another server if I want to do xyz, or load up creative if I want to play with new blocks.
We would still have that special something if simplex reset to 1.9, or 1.x, or 1.55.
If it were my responsibility:
Point A: 1.14 is a builders dream in a lot of ways; I would love to see what the best of the best do with a fresh canvas. To me, that's inspiring.
Point B: 1.14 is apparently a server maintenance nightmare right now. Gaining new blocks to live on a buggy server is a bummer.
Point C: Incorporating 1.14 would mean saying goodby to some of the incredible creations of the simplex community, that's not to be taken lightly, without some big benefit to the community.
Point ONO!!!!: People are holding back on builds right now, with the uncertainty. This strikes me as the biggest problem. I don't want the community holding back.
If it were my call, I'd say Guaranteed , no update for ~3 months. No fear, and no expectation In 3 months, IF Mojang etc have an update that will work, then we can reignite the debate.
There are things about 1.14 that would be cool for the community. The reality is 1.15, 1.16, etc, will be the same, and this rift will keep coming up. We also are overlooked by potential new players, searching for their minecraft home.
Because we are looking at a continual, and growing problem, In the long run, I think the server should reset, and do so with an eye towards building community.
A little smaller world to start will increase the frequency of interactions among players... more community
A reset gives space to expand the world for the next decade(could happen!) of updates) ... cutting edge community
Expanding the world periodically, even if there is no update to accommodate, can become a cool event for the community... cool community.
Those are my thoughts, but I'mma keep playing on here, whatever path. I'll just keep waiting on certain builds till I know what's what

Even though I don’t mind a reset, but as a builder I have seen few old servers still surviving in their original first version with lots of great and extraordinary buildings, which makes me agree with Meehan on his viewpoint. It’s still a matter of general decision. Simplex has its unique history, that’s why we made a museum for it to familiarize new players with its history. You can visit the museum buildings in Summer town when we are on or to to players that have a homeset there. If I am tired of my old buildings, I can still choose to build a different base. As a builder, I don’t mind having/not having a reset either. So I am open to any decision, whether reset to experience new stuff or not to keep the great buildings and history.

I've been playing on this server for over a year, and there are definitely pros and cons to resetting. Personally, I like to look back at my older and less impressive builds to see how I've improved, and I don't play for the survival side of the game. There is certainly a lot of gems scattered throughout the world that different people have built, and I know I'd hate to see some of the things I've done - as well as ones I'm working on - disappear. Extending the world border provides a lot of additional area, so when a new version comes out, there is nothing to stop people from accessing the new functions as they desire. The world is finite, so even if there was a reset, finite resources/structures would still be a factor. I may not be speaking for everyone, but I am not good at the survival aspect of minecraft, so all my efforts to gather the resources I have would feel pointless if I lost everything. A reset could even result in me leaving the server to be completely honest...
But at the same time, I understand the appeal of a reset. I feel like a lot of those who want a reset are newer players who keep finding builds wherever they try to go, but I may be wrong about that.

Bear in mind: Extending the world border can only be done so many times before we would need to Upgrade the server again. (And thus, fund a more powerful server with more storage capacity etc..)
I love looking back at old builds too... I love some of the large scales build I've come across, they're so inspiring! (More so than looking at MY builds! lol)

Personally at this point I'm all for a reset. A clean slate without going to another server would be nice. Not that I'd complain either way though.

How about this.
Instead of resetting the map lets shrink the world border back down to 42.5k, delete all of the chunks in between 42.5k to 50k, update the map from 1.13.2 to 1.14.3 then expand the border again back to 50k.
Simplex would do this every major update or any update that has new biomes, changes the terrain generation etc. so that we can have access to a the new biomes, generated structures, and items that come from newer updates. Keeping the community vote for a fringe world reset is also an option.
The core world would never get reset, beyond the core world border (lets say 42.5k) would be a fringe world. It would be the one that resets periodically.
Ponder away at the thought of such a reality for Simplex, I'm sure you can think of the positive/negative consequences of committing to this idea, I'm just here to present it and see the reactions.

This is a great idea, these chunks are relatively new and won't be missed as much. Although some builds would be lost, it wouldn't be as devastating as a full world reset. We'd still have all of our ranks, claimblocks, in game valuables, etc. We'd also still have most of our builds (hopefully). With enough notice, we could even tear down some of the builds inside the "kill zone" and rebuild them somewhere else. I believe that this idea has the potential to make the most players happy, and it also addresses the main issue of "we can't just keep expanding the world border forever" How about this. Instead of resetting the map lets shrink the world border back down to 42.5k, delete all of the chunks in between 42.5k to 50k, update the map from 1.13.2 to 1.14.3 then expand the border again back to 50k. So I haven’t put something in here because mostly I agree with many things and I really don’t have a good solution for this issue but removing a part of the world would not be terrible for some but for others, like me who joined shortly before or after the update and put their bases in the “new” area will lose a gigantic ammount of work. On this server I played for about 10 months now and to lose everything like that while other people wouldn’t lose a thing would really demotivate me to play. Starting over isn’t a huge problem but being forced to do that while other players don’t have to is not something I think would be better for the server.
In my opinion this isn’t a good idea because of the reasons listed above. I honestly woulnd’t even mind if the server updated without the new biomes, thouh if possible of course I’d like them but clearly not this way.

It would seem to me that either a full-on reset or a full-on preservation of the builds made would be the only reasonable solutions past expanding the world border. There will be more unrest for those who have built in the new regions. But that's the thing about preserving the old builds. The old builds in a sense are the problem. Here are all of these ancient sites and abandoned claims which plague the immeasurably outdated map which makes for a rather unpleasant presence in the server. When I visit Treecroft (one of Simplex's first towns of which I was a member) it makes me almost sick. It's all abandoned and it's just a blot on the beautiful landscape there due to lack of players. Although one could easily say "Well just find another site like it, most of the world's not claimed!" it's just their excuse for keeping this outdated map. The map cannot be maintained forever. Some of the staff wish for a fresh start (back then at least, not sure about every staff member's opinion on the matter now), some of the players wish for a fresh start, some of the staff oppose the fresh start, and some of the players oppose the fresh start. But it cannot be denied that this map is outdated, and cannot be maintained forever. People almost seem to despise you when you suggest a full-on reset. Our community has grown emotionally attached to their builds and that has hindered newer players from experiencing the joys of the new features of 1.14; not to mention the raging weariness of those who have been here for years. Not every person who wants a full-on reset is an RPG/Veil kind of guy where once they get rich, they abandon all things and go inactive. One must consider after all, that it has been THREE YEARS without a map update. That's enough to make even builders grow weary! Surely this must be a consideration. We have three year old claims lying about by individuals who abandoned the server long ago. The new reset will allow us to rekindle the spirit of the server, which is to gather and build essentially. Cliques will be scattered, and new friendships will be made; major build projects will start up again as they did before; and most importantly, new players will be able to enjoy a fresh map, without having to go 42k blocks out into the wilderness. It may sound nice to us, because of OUR builds, and OUR nice things, and OUR riches, and OUR this and that. But what about THEM? We must think about others.

It may sound nice to us, because of OUR builds, and OUR nice things, and OUR riches, and OUR this and that. But what about THEM? We must think about others.Well said. I will not say names, but I recall a player rudely suggesting me a while ago to “go to hell” when I stated that I wouldn’t mind a world reset in the server chat. No offense taken. I agree with your statements. It is most definitely not fair to newer players having to venture out tens of thousands of blocks in the Overworld to discover new chunks. And although I have heard in the past that there is still unexplored land before 42,500 blocks, the old world border, it’s unlikely that players will find “new” land inside this segment of the world. I also have heard that there was a previous world border before that — 30,000 blocks. The random wild teleporter, based off of chat observations, does not seem to be very effective for players trying to venture out beyond 42,500, if at all. This makes it harder, like I’ve stated above, and unfair, for newer players to find new land. And, if land is found beyond 42,500, such as coral reefs or large portions of oceans, they are usually claimed by another player who has been on the server for a while, and has racked up to hundreds of thousands of claim blocks. This can surely be frustrating. I understand both sides of the discussion. Players don’t want to lose their buildings that they have put hundreds, or thousands of hours into gathering materials, and actually building. Upon joining Simplex, I didn’t know that the world had never reset, which was stunning. Moreover, in the event where the world does reset, players will want to leave Simplex. This doesn’t sit well, since in retrospect, the players who are leaving will forfeit their votes, rank, donation perks (if bought), and most importantly, an outstanding community. Starting over on another server will not feel the same, as those players who have left because of the world reset will have to potentially vote to receive rewards, increase their rank, and pretty much earn all of their items back — only to face frequent world resets whenever an update rolls out. Instead, you can start fresh on this excellent server, Simplex, where you can likely transfer items into the new world, and you aren’t likely to face periodic, frustrating world resets. Players on Simplex will not be losing everything, based off of what I’ve said above. Sometimes, we are very selfish over what we have created, earned, and gathered, and it’s painful to lose what we have done. But, this decision will not only affect players individually, it will benefit all players of Simplex in the long run. It’s good to be selfish, but we must consider other players’ thoughts as well.
