So I was building this redstone hidden spiral staircase thing, and whenever these pistons are connected to live redstone, they blow up. In the video there is no sound, but when the pistons blow up, it makes the sound like TNT, or a creeper.

You probably have a claim border at that exact location. You can't push stuff with a piston, passing a claim border. The Griefprevention plugins prevents that.

To see claim borders, right click the area with a normal stick. Borders will show up as dotted lines of gold and glowstone on the ground. Alternatively you can hold a gold shovel in the area, this will also reveal claim borders.
