I've been feeling nostalgic recently. I've been on the server for a while (though not as long as some of our members), and I've had a lot of good memories over my roughly 2 years on Simplex. I've seen old friends leave and new friends join. I've been present for a number of minecraft updates and server changes. I've explored, I've grinded, I've created and destroyed, and of course I've died in numerous stupid ways XD. But the vast majority of my time on the server has been spent at my various bases. I see my bases as reflections of me, and as I've changed over the years so have they.
This is a selection of past and present self-portraits. They are collected here so I can reminisce, and so you can share vicariously in my nostalgia if you wish to. Welcome to my home, and into the remnants of my past.

The Brown Sheep IslesNovember 2016
^The present appearance of the Brown Sheep Isles. Before Simplex: Fall 2016
I had just lost my home server, a modest MCPE server called Harmony Survival. It was similar to Simplex in many ways, with a tight-knit community and a decent player base ranging from 20 to 60 people on any given day. I had been a staff member for many years: a helper and later an admin. I created server spawns, server shops, pvp arenas, and all sorts of other community builds throughout the years. Being a MCPE server, world stability was a big issue, and every few months we would have to wipe the world clean and start fresh, so there was always something to build. Most of what we needed done we did manually, since we only had access to the most basic plugins. To find a cheater, you would go in spectator mode and teleport to every player on the server until you found one who was cheating. Sometimes you found an x-rayer's spaghetti tunnels, sometimes you found a duper's base made entirely out of diamond blocks, sometimes some kid with a hacked client was just flying around spawn. And being a MCPE server also means that your players are mostly kids, so even normal tasks would test your patience. We had a large staff for such a small server - around 16 of us. We needed all the extra manpower though; we literally held that server together by sheer will. It was a lot of work, but it was fun. With the arrival of fall, it became apparent that the most recent server shutdown was not going to be a temporary one. Our server was closed and we were functionally homeless. A New Home: November 2016After a long time searching and visiting various servers I finally found Simplex, and I instantly knew I was home. The players seemed really kind, the staff and owner were good people, and the anti-grief plugins were an absolute godsend to a builder like me. I'm a square so I read basically every sign at spawn and then headed off on my way. I vaguely remember asking the noob question, "Is there a /warp wild?" before I was directed to the random tp pad. I went off into the wilderness, collecting the wood, ores, and food to sustain me as I searched for a place to make my first base. I eventually reached the coast of a large ocean where I made a boat and set sail. I eventually stumbled upon two small islands, the larger of which was inhabited by a brown sheep. I made my first house on this island, using wood from birch and oak trees that I cut down on the smaller island. I named my new home, "The Brown Sheep Isles," after the original sheep inhabitant. I named him, "Brian the Brown Sheep," and I kept him in a glass pen in my house for all the time I lived there. Years later I gave the base to Dysue and since I couldn't take Brian to my current base, I decided that it was time to kill Brian. His brown wool can still be found hanging in an item frame in my map room in Darkwood Base. I lived at this base for a long time, eventually installing my first ever sorting system (used for rocks and dirt lol) as well as some small farms. I got one of my first ever mending books while fishing in the bay next to my house. ^A screenshot from December 4th, 2016: My first base is complete. My shield bears the pattern of the Flag of the Brown Sheep Isles.
