Let's git rid of phantoms, because they're too awful to exist. Sleeping is too much work end game.

Anyone who hasn't had the chance to vote on this should vote on it so that your voice gets heard. Whether or not everyone wants to acknowledge it, phantoms are currently a problem and both a) hinder one's ability to play the game and b) could cause lag. IMO, it'd be worth it to limit their spawns or change the amount of days in between spawns.

I dont see this ever happening.
Phantoms are a part of survival minecraft, and the solution is quite easy. You lay down in a bed for a split second every other night, and they wont ever spawn.
Yes, they can be annoying, so can other mobs, but we're used the other ones.
And the few phantoms around the server that are present at the same time, will not cause any noticeable lag.

I understand that they are a part of the game, but it just doesn't make much sense to have to go out of your way to find a bed just to right click and not even sleep because sleeping is unrealistic on a server like this. I rarely get motivation to do huge projects on the server, and have having phantoms around chases away what little motivation I have. I created this thread as a way that we, as a community could decide on a better way to handle phantoms. If everyone determines that phantoms are part of the game and that we shouldn't mess with them at all, I'll accept that choice and just deal with them or only build in the end. However, from what I've gathered from in-game chat, several other players are fed up with phantoms too. They weren't planned out very well by Mojang, and now we have to suffer for it. I propose that we get a plugin that extends it so you only see phantoms after 4 hours of gameplay which would make them more rare, but yet still available. Another option could be to have the nights it takes for them to spawn differ by rank. (Starter might be 4-5 nights, and apprentice might be 7-8 nights, etc..)

1- carry a bed 2- I agree the over 6 months that they had to make phantoms perfect were not enough. They should have delayed 1.13 by 6 more months.

Once again... You have a solution to your own problem.
I sleep every night. It’s not hard, you get used to it.

I'd have no problem with sleeping if it actually did anything. It just feels too fake and pointless having to enter a bed just for a few seconds to reset a timer. You can't even sleep on a server like this, so what's the point of having to right click a bed for 2 seconds. The same thing could be done with commands such as a /sleep command. Yeah it'd be pretty pointless to have a /sleep command, almost as pointless as having beds but not being able to actually sleep. Maybe even making it so 1/3 of the players online has to sleep to make it day or something. I just feel that there's a lot of features broken on Mojangs end, which are only amplified on a server of this size. The server is only semi-vanilla so I don't see why some issues can't be fixed on our end if the community is for it. Obviously if it just comes off as me ranting and nobody else agrees with me or sees this as a problem, then I understand and accept that, as it's the route we're going to take. But I don't see why we have to be forced to deal with issues that Mojangs too lazy to fix just for the sake of it. Mojang clearly doesn't have a semi-vanilla server's interests at heart. If they did, they would've better implemented sleep, phantoms, mob spawning, and likely even added a GriefPrevention system into the game. If they aren't going to look after us players, who will.

I would get rid of phantoms, anyone would really if they could. I think the main problem with that is it makes the game less vanilla.
Simplex already has plugins and other features that distinguish it from purely vanilla (Even though it's as close as you can get). I feel like decreasing the spawn rate or just flat out not allowing them to spawn in takes away the vanilla spirit. I'm not sure if anyone feels similarly, but this is how it is in my opinion. They're a pain, but they're in the game and we have no say in what Mojang puts in. Using commands or, gods forbid, plugins to prevent the spawning of phantoms would just make the experience a bit less than it is. Some of us need a phantom bite in the head every once in a while just like we all need a good Creeper in the face. It makes the game feel dangerous and risky, but also real.
Also, bed hats. Wear a bed hat. Take it off at night and bam, sleeping in seconds. Then just put it back on your head. Win-win.

This is an old thread and wasn't even meant to be taken seriously, as it was more off a troll/shit-post. The options provided in the original post weren't even realistic options we could take, because both removing phantoms and reducing spawns would take away from vanilla. Because of this, I would be for this thread being closed.
That being said, I'll offer a legitimate solution to the problem. The problem isn't phantoms themselves, but it's the poorly written phantom mechanics mixed with the poorly written bed mechanics, that weren't meant for multiplayer. A solution to the problem that would also be considered semi-vanilla would be having a multiplayer sleep plugin or datapack that would allow only a fraction of the players to have to sleep. (A common ratio is 1/3 of players have to sleep, or 10 of every 30). This would make it more realistic to actually use sleeping as intended in the game. Some might claim that such a change wouldn't be semi-vanilla. The definitions of vanilla and semi-vanilla are kind of vague, but generally for me vanilla means directly mirroring singleplayer Minecraft. Semi-vanilla means mirroring singleplayer Minecraft, similar to vanilla except that it offers modifications and plugins that make it more multiplayer friendly. By this interpretation, such a solution for the bed crisis would fall under semi-vanilla.
This thread was again focused on getting rid of phantoms, and when I originally started it I had no opinion and was only trolling and elaborating based on what was happening in chat. However, shortly after I started the thread I began a map art project. Building an image pixel by pixel block by block on a more complicated image without a schematic or schematica to go off of was daunting task alone, but when I was losing track and losing my spot countless times due to phantoms or having to leave the area to sleep, I developed a strong opinion against them. Today, I am still against phantoms, but I also realize that the problem is on Mojang's end and it's not our problem to deal with. Phantoms don't affect me anymore as I have stalled my map art project for when schematica comes out for 1.13.2, and I usually spend my time on the server in places where phantoms can't spawn or get to me.
To wrap it up: Phantoms are a pain, and this thread was started as a more of a satirical response to what was happening in chat. This thread is old, and in the duration of the thread I've gone from having no opinion, to hating phantoms, and finally to not caring. I mentioned multiplayer-sleep in order to offer an actual solution to the problem, but something like that should be mentioned and furtherly discussed in its own thread, otherwise we'd be off topic. Again, this thread is old, offered no real solutions, and getting rid of phantoms- a part of the vanilla experience- isn't something that's realistic or even an option; because of that, "Get Rid of Phantoms" should be locked.
