Howdy, it's EnderKitty. I've been thinking about addressing this for quite some time, mainly because I know multiple people, even close friends in and out of the server who are affected by this every day, and it is absolutely appalling. This is one of my serious moments to talk about an issue that no one is safe from. Please vote based on your morals/ethics and abstain from voting either option if you must. Leave your feedback on this down below, and if you're not in the minority, think of the people you love and care about who are.
There have been multiple incidents where players on Simplex have not been their best, and have expressed hateful and often racist views which have had external effects to not just the player, but an intoxication of the community. This, together with the current political climate of the World makes me firmly believe that stronger measures should be taken to prevent the spread and vocalization of hatred, racism, anti-LGBT and anti-Semitic sentiment on the server. There are some ways the rule could be better enforced/implemented (not to say the Staff haven't enforced it at all, they do a terrific job.)
I propose to the Staff a couple of changes. Some minor specifications on what rule #4 equates to, and some that change the degree of punishment when said rule is broken.
1) That Rule #4 is to be reworded to signify overall blanket protection, respect and tolerance to all people, regardless of sexuality/orientation, colour, ethnicity, political views, citizenship status, etc. as to avoid an incident where someone challenges the definition of "everyone" as stated in rule #4 and to show players that the Staff and server as a whole stand by the equal protection of all parties listed above as well as other protected minorites.
2) The punishment for violating the fourth rule, specifically in the long term, and to have the punishment become harsh, or to keep the punishment as it is currently, but in a way that handicaps or obstructs their ability to violate the rule again. (Example: a player appeal for an unban for breaking the rule; appeal is approved; player returns to the server, however they are soft or completely muted on all Simplex communities until Staff deems appropriate.) Staff are to take this suggestion and modify it however they want. Staff should also consider whether past incidents of racism (and the like) do merit a harsher option to deter any future incidents.
3) Any symbols of the German Third Reich (Nazi Germany), as well as known or intentionally custom made symbols of apartheid, racial segregation, anti-LGBT, anti-Semitism, etc. are to be taken as a direct violent attack apon all of the community which threatens their safety and are to be punished in that aspect.
4) Denial of past/current atrocities, prominently the Armenian Genocide, the Holocaust of the Second World War, and the nationalist neo-Nazi uprisings all over the World (particularly in the United States.), to bear a punishment the Staff sees more fit than the current method of punishment.
Simplex is meant to be an escape from life. It is meant to be a safe house for people of all backgrounds to come together and have fun. We can't let this feeling be in vain. There is not one single minority on Earth. The Earth is minorities. There is no superior section of people. We are humans. We deserve protection and the ability to be able to not have to worry about such things. Some or all of these suggestions may be hard for some Staff members to get on board with, but it's worth starting the discussion on how we can effectively manage the situation, and soon.
