We have a small building with some villagers in it in our town. We've been selectively breeding them and culling them to try to get desirable trades. Last night when I logged out we had two blacksmiths, one farmer(named), two librarians, and two baby librarians. Earlier today, the first time someone checked the villagers, we had zero blacksmiths, only two librarians, and three farmers, none of whom are named. We have iron golems outside patrolling, and the doors are iron so it's doubtful anything got inside to them. We're pretty confused as to what happened, any ideas? We've been offline for multiple days before and come back and they haven't despawned and I don't think it was a zombie that wandered in through a left open door because then all the villagers would be dead instead of only a select few. Are villagers protected from griefing when they're on your claim? Obviously something despawned or destroyed most of the villagers we had including a named one and then they bred to make more, but we're clueless on what happened to the ones we had.

It may have been the plugin which cuts down entities/chunk but it only would have done that if you had more than 35 villagers in one chunk. Next time me or jasan are online ask one us to respawn the particular villager you lost

There is a multiplayer glitch which occassionally turns villagers invisible. sometimes relogging causes them to reappear. I lost a smith earlier today, but he reappeared later.

Similar to how my baby chickens seem to forget where the solid walls are upon reaching adult hood in a cramped space?
