I know the server believes on keeping things as "vanilla" as possible but the way spawns work is a tad ridiculous with the amount of people that the server is designed to run, as I type this I cant even get hostile mobs to spawn in the nether and there are four people on... literally just one person goobing afk in the nether or "shopping" basically ruins every possible spawn and its really frustrating at times, was wondering if a plug in that allowed for a spawn cap on a per/chunk basis would be possible or if enough people wanted it, if it could happen. Hi.
I'm gonna add one technical reason why spawns might be low on Simplex. There might be more to it, but this is what I know of for now.
From the wiki (https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Spawn) it says: "If the player's view distance or the server view distance in multiplayer is at 9 or below, mob spawning is severely reduced (or they despawn too quickly), and may result in the player encountering no mobs at all."
Server render distance is set to 8 at Simplex.
Why is it set to 8? My best guess would be resource usage on the server. And is there more to it than just this? I dont know. Meehan might be the (only) one to answer this correctly.

This could be the case but I do happen to know that Vanilla mob spawning relies on a per player basis and this seems to be the case in simplex as well, IE one person taking all the hostile mobs spawns in one dimension just simply by being near one of there spawners passively, as mobs passively spawn the cap can be reached even in a single room stopping all spawns elsewhere until said mobs are killed.

Increasing render distance is probably not very viable given the extra load it would put on the server. One person is able to hog the entirety of the mob cap in a dimension if there are only a few people in said dimension. That's an issue, but not one specific to Simplex. You can blame Mojang for this one. I wouldn't be against a plugin that fixes nonsense like this, but it also risks bringing in new issues. I wish there was a 'fix shit' button you could just press, but alas...

Wouldn't it be worth a try to fix and make the server way more viable for the hoards of new people joining?

Sure... if you can find such a plugin that does the job. I don't know of any.

The low mob cap doesn’t give a vanilla feel, the fact that one person might not even be killing mobs can fill up the whole mobcap is shit

This would definitely improve the server imo.

A zombie villager always spawns in the same spot next to my base.
