How long have you been playing minecraft: A little over a year (my 10-year-old son introduced me to it)
Application: I am staff elsewhere, and came here initially just to have an awesome server with a nice community where I could be "just a player". However, the other servers don't need much of my time; I'm spending quite a lot of time online here; and it's clear that that staff could use some extra (mature, responsible, knowledgeable) helping hands. So, after thinking it over at length, I'm applying to join the staff.
I have skills and experience which I'd be happy to share with this community: Although I'm relatively new to Minecraft, I am very experienced at a) configuring and hosting a massively-multiplayer server, b) being admin on a server, c) moderating chat, d) helping players and resolving player issues.
So that brings me to Simplex. I searched for a semi-vanilla server (GriefPrevention and Essentials), with a mid-sized active community, and a great staff. Happily, I found that here, in Simplex!
I'm already playing an active role in the community as "someone who is (hopefully) helpful and knowledgeable" in chat; who encourages new players who are showing some effort but having trouble; and forming community bonds with other experienced players. Joining the staff team would give me some extra tools for helping to moderate chat, but I would continue to be the helpful person I try to be anyway.
I'm human and sometimes fall short (more often than I'd like), but I strive to act with maturity and compassion toward others. I'm a husband and father. I've had a good career with progressively more responsible (and more demanding, and more rewarding) jobs in real life. And I've been through some really terrible experiences which (hopefully) have taught me to act with compassion toward others, but to also be grounded and patient -- to not go looking for conflict, but to also not put up with willful wrongdoing.
Three of my favorite quotes. (I don't always remember them; I sometimes speak in haste; but I try to be guided by these principals. It's a journey.)
"Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a great battle." - Philo of Alexandria
"Be kind whenever possible. It is always possible." - Dalai Lama
"The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing." - Albert Einstein

If you would like to see me have a more active role as [H]elper, please vote "yes" on the poll. If not, then please vote "no" and no hard feelings from me.

- I was server host and principal admin of a NeverwinterNights2 server for 3+ years, before we merged with the largest NWN2 server in the community. I started out as "just a player", but the staff came to know and trust me, and invited me to join them. When the server owner hit a rough patch in life, he asked me to take over hosting. I set up a dedicated server, loaded all the software (including a database), and ran it for a little more than 3 years until the merger. Good times.
- I started out as "just a player" on one of the older Minecraft servers (running since 2011), and again was eventually recruited by the staff. I ended up as admin there before the server owner had to take a break to deal with family matters, and the server was taken down. (Haven't heard from him in a while, but I wish him the best. He's dealing with some really tough times.) However, as admin I became expert with Minecraft commands (including command blocks), structure blocks, and redstone. I greatly improved our Enderman farm, and set up an easy-to-use, "fool-proof" (as much as anything can be ) endermite spawner for it.
- The owner of another very popular Minecraft server knew me from there, and asked me to come join his team to help solve a particular set of problems for him. I'm one of only 3 people in that (large) server community with the rank of admin, but they have really good coverage from a large and active staff apart from admins, and they don't really need me. I check in about once a week to see how things are going, and stay in touch with the owner. But it's clear that -- apart from fixing that problem -- they have plenty of help.
