I'll be using this thread as a build log of my upcoming base named Project V (for the time being). This will eventually become my first actual base on the server, and oh boy is it going to be big. All the way from bedrock upto ground level, with more than likely a massive decoration piece stretching from ground level a good amount of blocks up into the sky. (I've got a design in mind.) Currently planned to be at least 101x60x101 big, but it will probably expand even more further down the line. The area I decided to build my base at coincidentally is right at an abandoned mineshaft and covers slime chunks, which is absolutely amazing. 3 cave spider spawners, a skeleton spawner, and slimes!
First thing I did was obviously scout for a location. Needless to say, I shot myself with arrows over and over again to keep my elytra flight up until I found a suitable place. I ended up settling for a mega taiga biome as I think it's one of the best biomes when it comes to terrain generation. Clearing out of the area begun on the 22nd of August of 2016 Screnshot from the 18th of August of 2016. 
Once I settled on an exact spot, I slapped down a full beacon for some Haste II goodness and started clearing out all blocks in range of the beacon from 8 on the Y co-ordinate. Screenshot from the 24th of August of 2016.

I've since mined some more out, now 40 blocks height.
And I got myself an elder guardian pet... for some reason. Quite the annoying pet to have with its mining fatigue.   
And I built my nether portal! It's the exact same build both in the nether and overworld.      
And finally started working on my farms. First up is the bone farm (automatic skeleton farm), with my tree farm right next to it so that I can farm bones while I farm wood.  And then my string farm. Dual cave spider spawner for this one. (Though the building only covers one, as the second spawner is behind the wall.) 
Cacti, snow and slime farms!  
A bunch of terraforming, a bridge, and a gate.   
That's about all I've got for the time being. Will update this every time I feel like enough progress has been made.

Project V, what will it become, theme-wise? I know it's a base but do you mean military base, sci-fi base, or a classic Minecraft obsidian base? Please answer and thanks. With a base I simply mean a place to call home where all my stuff is, including storage, farms, etc. I don't know how people live in houses in minecraft, you don't have enough space in them no matter how big you make them. As for the theme... Not sure what you'd call it, but I guess it would be futuristic. Quartz is going to be the main building block. |

Updated OP as (little and slow, but definitely some) progress has been made.
Also changed the planned theme from futuristic to something in between rustic and steampunk.

That's an epic build! I that portal tower above the ceiling of the nether? Did you get someone to open up the ceiling for you? Also, aren't giant holes in the ground just the greatest?   |

Yup, that's above the nether roof. I did break a bunch of bedrock myself using the dragon egg's ability to destroy blocks when falling in lazy chunks and also got some help with. Giant holes in the ground might not be the best kind of holes there are, but they're pretty damn good lol. I plan to eventually terraform the entire thing to look all nice and dandy though. |
