Alright, I am guilty. I decided to let my guard down and mine diamonds(using x-ray) while a staff was on. I know that staff can still see logs and what not but I let my confirmation bias get to me and downplay that fact. I did my best to create a strip mine and only mine diamonds in a certain way but of course, I was in a hurry and kinda went 'rambo'. I actually picked up the game again and wanted to do a semi-vanilla SMP because it's fun but let my cheating temptations get to me. I am a veteran cheater and I realize how hard it is to stop cheating completely. Not even playing a video game for over 2 years stops that. I got rid of my cheat client in my versions it was called "Aristois". Since I accomplished so much(building a nice house, a good farm, a coral reef nearby, etc.) without my cheats I would hate myself if I got perma'd banned on a server I really care about. So I am not going to risk getting permabanned.
