Hello, I am a relatively new player, Brangus_Boi. I did not realize that random mining was not allowed. The strategy I was using was setting a home to the end of my strip mine, and then teleporting back there when I wanted to mine again. You will notice that all of my mines are long strip mines that first go down straight down to level 13 to 8, and then are basically strip mines until I run into gravel or lava, at which point I turn left or right. I would appreciate if you lifted my ban because I was not using an xray mod.

I have a question. If from now on I mine starting from the mine at my base, will i later be banned? If I set my home to the end of my mine every time I mine so that I can always get back there without having to walk back there, will I be banned for that?

These diamonds were not visible from your strip mine. There was a layer of stone between you and them. There were no other minerals between you, such as gold or lapis, that might have attracted you to dig there. Just stone. In fact, you walked past redstone (and left it unmined) to get to where the diamonds were. And yet, you magically directed your strip mine to directly over the diamonds, and magically dug down exactly where they were. If this had been an isolated event, maybe. But this is just one example. There were others. Your ban is for 7 days. The next xray will be permanent. Cheers. p.s. You wrote "I did not realize that random mining was not allowed." You misspelled "I did not realize that xray mining was not allowed." p.p.s. How you get to/from your mine is irrelevant. Taking advantage of a /sethome to go back/forth is smart. That has nothing to do with this tempban, but nice attempt to redirect. As Wil Wheaton would say, "Points."

I walk past redstone all the time because it's a plentiful resource. Was there a resource that might explain why I mined to the left, maybe I mined left and then mined under me on accident? I would also like to see the other examples. I understand why that seems like it was caused by an xray mod, but it wasn't. I seriously love this server and would not do anything that I knew would cause me to be banned.
I wasn't trying to distract you by mentioning my strategy, I was trying to understand why this happened.
There are also examples of me looking to the right and mining a 1 by 1 hole as far as it goes, and then looking left and mining a 1 by1 hole as far as it goes. I do this because it increases the block revealed to block mined ratio. It wouldn't make any sense for someone who is xraying to do that.
By "random mining" I thought you meant teleporting to a random place from spawn and then mining from there. All my mines are strip mines.
Aren't there examples of diamond ores that my strip mine just missed? Doesn't that seem like good evidence that I wasn't xraying?
If the behavior was from yesterday, I can say that I was just mining a lot because I was at a superbowl party with close friends and I am not really all that interested in football.
Part of the reason I am concerned here is that I was not xraying and so whatever behavior you inferred that I was xraying from is unlikely to change, which is why I would like to see the other examples. I wish you could run some diagnostic on my computer because I have never used any texture pack on minecraft, let alone a cheaty one.

I'll quote my first response: "These diamonds were not visible from your strip mine. There was a layer of stone between you and them. There were no other minerals between you, such as gold or lapis, that might have attracted you to dig there. Just stone."
The server logs every block broken or placed, and every chest access. Every one. And we can roll back just those few blocks to see how it was before you mined, and after. It's not hard to see what happened. In some cases, there is room for doubt. In those cases, we almost never assume guilt. We assume innocence until a clearer example emerges (if that ever happens). In this case, there was no room for doubt. The blocks tell a story, and that story is clear.
Your tempban will be up in 6 more days. See you then. Cheers.

JavaNinja,
You said before in reference to the incident that you mention: "If this had been an isolated event, maybe. But this is just one example. There were others." That being the case I would like to see evidence (such as screenshots) that this was not an isolated event, as by your own standards just this event alone would not be sufficient evidence.
Best, Brangus.

Brangus_Boi, other team members took a look and the evidence points to this not being xray. I was mistaken and I apologize. Your ban is lifted, effective immediately. Your stuff which was taken is returned to your base, in a shulker chest of my own as a consideration for the inconvenience.

First of all thank you for being so understanding, we really appreciate it. We're only human, we all make mistakes sometimes.
Secondly, you were asking a lot about what you did wrong so you could avoid a false accusation in the future, and honestly there are a few things you could do that would really help us. Your mines are honestly not the cleanest, and that's okay. But the issue is that, even with all the plugins we have at our disposal, it was often still really hard to figure out where you were mining to/from and how it was exactly that you stumbled upon a given ore block. This means that when something looked like xray we had to really go out of our way to figure out what the heck you were doing so that we could prove your innocence.
As far as I'm concerned your mining was completely legal, but the messiness of your mines nearly convinced me on multiple occasions that you were xraying. Your mines should be working for you, not against you.
Here's some general tips on how to fix that: -Mine in straight lines: Avoid zig-zagging and taking sudden turns. If you happen to turn and immediately hit diamonds it will look very suspicious. -Mine on a consistent level: Don't step up and down all over the place. If you hit something valuable because of a change in elevation it will look like you xrayed toward it. -Avoid backfilling tunnels: Don't fill in areas that you already mined out, this is a common tactic used by xrayers to try and hide what they've done. Additionally, if you fill in a tunnel with stone or some other natural material we may not see it, which could be crucial in proving your innocence or guilt. Try to leave your mines untouched so that when we come to inspect them we can immediately see what's going on.

To explain this visually, below is what your tunnel looked like. It twists and turns and changes elevation all over the place:
___________________________________________________________________________ This is what some cleaner mines look like. Notice the straight tunnels and consistent elevation.
__________________________________________________________________________ Additionally, some players choose to mine in a set pattern of parallel tunnels or a grid system of tunnels (a stripmine).

Thanks for the help Emaj7.
Here is my current plan. I am going to mine in one direction starting from my current base. I will always mine (insofar as I can remember, I do have add) on level 11. Any deviation will be by one block because I mined something and kept going and forgot to readjust. I will go straight until I run into gravel, or plausibly lava if I forgot to bring a bucket. I will only make sharp 90 degree turns, and there will be a clear reason why I made that turn. I plan to continue to set a home at the end of my strip mine. I will not use torches unless I am playing in an unusually bright room.
Does all of that seem copacetic?

That seems like a good way to avoid future issues. Definitely follow what emajor posted too. Your mines were sketchy looking but they seemed legit.
