About a month ago, I went on a quest to find my own woodland mansion.
I knew they were scarce, so I figured if I wanted a chance of actually finding one, I'd have to take a systematic approach.
After doing some research, I learned that cartographers will show the nearest mansion up to 20000 blocks away.
Using this, I decided to attempt to fly around the world in a predetermined path and buy from every cartographer I saw.
I decided to distance myself at 45k - which is about half way between the 1.11 chunks (42.5k) and current border (50k).
Being where I was would help me avoid some duds in the old chunks and some mansions far outside the border.
My logic was by doing this, I would eventually find every woodland mansion inside the border (or at least every new mansion) and hopefully find my own.
It was basically a 4 day project start-to-finish, and by the time I finished I had found out that I missed my chance. Only 3 new mansions had been added from the 1.13 expansion and they had all been looted already.
I wasn't sure if I should share my findings, but I've seen that people are still hunting woodland mansions so I figured I might share this and save people some time.
If you're looking for a mansion for the loot such as totems, you aren't going to have much luck.
If you are looking for a mansion in order to see what one looks like first hand, I can help you out with that.
Here is a map of all the woodland mansions inside the border:
I thought it was strange how there was exactly 3 mansions per quadrant except for the (-,+) area where I hadn't seen a single one.
I decided to give that gave that area extra attention, but after spending a whole day searching that quadrant, I still hadn't found anything, and so I brought my search to a close.
I'm about 90% sure that there aren't any more mansions out there.
If anyone wants to keep looking in order to prove me wrong, be my guest.
I put together a chart of known mansion locations and known "duds" so if you get a map from a cartographer, you can use this as a guide to compare your map against.
Known Mansions:
If you want to see a mansion in it's natural (but looted) state, I'd recommend checking out the "Worldguarded Mansion" which is completely protected and preserved. The mansion JavaNinja discovered (and let me have) is also going to be kept in good condition.
As for ones to avoid, I'd suggest avoiding Kitty's because it looks like someone had a little bit too much tnt or fire on hand, and I'd avoid the half generated mansion because it didn't fully generate.
Known Duds (outside of border, or didn't generate where they should've):
I tried to have default maps to go off of, but am missing the default one for the bottom row, third from the left. If anyone happens to find a map that matches it and isn't filled in yet, or if anyone finds any maps I had missed feel free to send me a copy so I can update this guide.
Thanks,
