Hey, it's Loptr_Love! I had a question that I asked in the server, and someone, though I can't remember who, suggested putting it on the forums, so here I am!
So my question is about claims and marked public land. The situation: I made a small Inn for the village a few people live in, not a player built village, a generated village, so I didn't build it, but I altered the building it's being used for. I wanted others to be able to use the beds, so I didn't claim it. However, I am worried about someone claiming the land, thus making it theirs, and no longer public. I was wondering if there was a way I could mark it as public (maybe with a sign?), so that if anyone claims it against the wishes of me, the builder, I was wondering if the staff could override and abandon their claim of the land, thus returning it to public land, which anyone can use. Or if that's not something that can happen, an nothing can be done if someone just walks in and decides to claim it. Just a curious question, thank you for your time!

You can claim the land and use (one of of the) trust command to keep (some of) it public. "/accesstrust" gives people the ability to interact with redstone, such as doors, buttons, etc, but not access chests or build/destroy stuff. "/containertrust"is the same as accesstrust with the addition of being able to use inventories such as chests and furnaces "/trust" gives full access to the claim, which is all of the above and the ability to break/place blocks. This is essentially the same as if it wasn't claimed when it comes to what others can do inside the claim. Using "public" as the entered username behind one of these commands gives that level of trust/access to everyone. For example, "/containertrust public" would allow anyone to use chests, doors, beds, whatever in the claim, but not build or destroy any blocks. See dev.bukkit.org/projects/grief-prevention/pages/command-and-permissions-reference for a list of commands and whatnot. Some of these features aren't used on here though.

wait can you not sleep in other players beds if it is not in your claim?! Beds are considered as a “container” I believe, and you may only sleep in beds that are not yours by asking another player to give you /containertrust. You cannot sleep in beds that are in a claim by another player.
