Hello everyone! I've been catching up on the details of Update Aquatic, and I'm curious on how and if this update will be implemented on the server, as there are dome pretty substantial changes in terrain and biome generation. How has this been done in the past? Will there be a reset or will we keep this world? Maybe updating only unclaimed areas? Idk honestly, so could someone bring me up to speed?

The changes in terrain generation are actually not that big (at least when you don't look at it 'under the hood'). Using the same seed for 1.12 and 1.13 gives you for the most part the same world generation. All new ocean biomes in 1.13 are essentially the 'normal' oceans in 1.12 split up into multiple different ocean biomes. Caves generate differently, and structures have some very minor changes, but from the surface the transistion wouldn't even be visible unless you're in an ocean.
For previous updates (1.10, 1.11 and 1.12) either nothing changed or the world border was pushed back 10 000 or so blocks. Chances are it's going to be a similar story for 1.13; a world border increase. (Well, there have been a few End resets, but no such thing for the overworld and nether.)
We can't simply regenerate unclaimed terrain, and even if we could, not everyone has all their stuff claimed.
Whatever the case though, I'm just speculating here. Expect it to take a few extra weeks after 1.13 is released for the server to update anyway, given that the server isn't vanilla, and we'd need spigot and the plugins we use to be updated before we can consider updating to 1.13.

What we could do (this would take a long time btw) is somehow figure out which ocean chunks have had activity by players, building etc, and reload all of the ones that haven't been used, as a lot of the ocean has probably been loaded already In my SSP world, I'm avoiding the oceans until the update, simply so that I have consistently 1.13 oceans Also, OMG DOLPHINS! SO CUUTE!!!
